np. just click ok, and restart from the linux mint start menu.
let system reboot, go back to live session. run boot repair app> recommended repair
if dualbooting, ensure windows fast startup is off, well ahead of time
Im not dual booting
Its done
What should I do now?
THANK YOU SO MUCH
IT BOOTED WITHOUT THE USB
Erm I just got a kernel Panic
dont mess with kernels
and pay close attention to every thing u allow to pass as an update
Oh
it should not just kernel panic
unless overheat or bad core software component changed
Well it is a shitbox soo
run watch -n 1 sensors
see if cpu core temperatures are behaving. and under 87
during a fresh bootup, or what?
Immediately after showing the mint logo it displays the kernel panic
I tried rebooting and the same thing happens
but earlier it loaded fine, post-install?
Yes
Earlier I even restarted and it worked
force-shutdown
Done
2017
Its an HP Probook x360 GE 11 or smth along that line
ok wen u power it on, press esc a few times before mint logo ever appears
Alr
Done
grub menu show?
No
Some menu that looks like bios
u ran boot repair so grub menu should ALWAYS show
i suspect 6.17 upgrade screwed u
Holy shit 😭
Still kernel panic
ok restart.
at grub menu, arrow down to mint advanced
choose the oldest kernel shown. non-recov
do it
It wasnt the recovery mode one
good. open update manager, click view
view> linux kernels
6.17 series
remove any installed ones from that series
go to 6,8 series
Yea
install one of its latest
that's the long-term support series one
just decline any linux image updates for 6.17
remember, to boot older kernels, u need to do from grub> advanced
btw, one curiosity
Yea?
what u get for inxi -CGm ; swapon -s
In terminal?
yeh
Can i jus send a pic?
this is xfce right?
Ye
ok.
Why?
yeh fine. was just curious wen u said shitbox
Well you see my point?
I wanna upgrade it but still deciding cause Im getting a new one
just keep ur browsing tabs under 7
u have some swap, that helps, but relying on swap is only last resort really
Damn, alr thank you again
so anyway, never run 'sudo apt upgrade'
as this will recklessly allow all upgrades.
use update manager, and deselect or blacklist linux-image 6.17
How do i blacklist?
6.14.0-37-generic
does it say what it proposes to upgrade TO?
I guess it's fine.
So update?
Yea thank you
dont forget this command
Lemme run it rn
Ohh ok
did it?
Yea
koo
Its like a long book explaining what it is
blacklisting should be in there
I dont see it…
The help is of no help
oh.
kek
well u can chat about it in #⛑triage if need assistance on that. or check via google for the topic
I might be a dumbass who is illiterate but thank you 😭 🙏
pref's. read the fine print
