#How to get TP-Link Archer Wifi Adapter working on computer which has no internet otherwise.
92 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I have a computer which I had to install linux mint on for work
And I have this wifi adapter but no drivers for it
I found the correct? Drivers for my wifi adapter and downloaded them, picture below
But I have no idea how to install them
This like my 2nd time tryna use linux.
Can you post results from terminal for lsusb; uname -r
Can you use USB tethering from a smart phone to connect that computer to internet?
Yes
And I do not have anything I am tethering tk
I am downloading a file from one computer putting it on a flash
And putting it on this other pc
No other way to connect this computer to the internet other than a wifi adapter
What result from terminal for dmesg|grep iwl
I got it for sale and it is in this old looking case but appears to have been upgraded to an intel i5 10th generation I believe
Do not let these results fool you, it seems to have the screw in wifi antenna pci card, but no antennas to screw in
Thst is why it displays intel wifi 6
Was the USB wifi plugged in when you ran the 'lsusb` command?
RTl8832/8852
i presume u can do an offline package install. i just dont know how
I hope so
From the looks of it there were a few drivers that could be installed via terminal that would work..
Thing is, well uhh, no wifi...
u dont have a smartphone and a USB cable?
It is easier if that computer had a connection to internet, how far from the router are you?
Very far
the smartphone will need ofc the ability to 'share internet connection over usb tethering'
Hmm
Can you get it very close?
No not at all
It is a large desktop pc that I cannot move
Wait
Fuck
I can't use usb tethering with my phone
My carrier blocks me unless I pay money because its like
A hotspot
Although I did transfer the correct driver onto a USB stick, I do not know how to install it
I doubt you have all the package needed to compile, right click in that window and choose "open in terminal" then in terminal try make
dpkg -l |grep dkms
Change the directory name to get rid of the space in LINUX MINT
Hmm
Ok I did that and I believe the make is failing
Should I kill it and just open the makefile included?
What result for dpkg -l|grep dkms
You will likely need https://github.com/morrownr/rtw89
Might be better to get antennas for the wifi that is already installed, it is Intel
Well
When i made the file btw it only installed half of it
that's why it failed when u ran make
All _
This is what happens when I run make on it
I must be missing some kind of dependency
i guess go to the website and read it over perfectly and get ALL dependencies as deb files
onto ur usb stick
in a directory named debs
then bring it over to here, and install all the deb packages which are dependencies to make the final product
just double-click each deb and mint will take over to facilitate install
YOU KNOW WHAT
Fuck this cuh
Ima carry my pc downstairs to get the ethernet
So I can install these bullshit ahh drivers
Use the driver source I posted from github
@mental abyss @sullen crypt Good News
Carried my whole pc downstairs and spent a hour moving wires and crap
But once I got it online it updated and AUTOMATICALLY INSTALLED THE DRIVERS FOR THE ADAPTER 😭 😭
got it now the thing?
I didn't even need to do repository nonsense
oh ok.
Yes
welp there u go.
run up a timeshift, and set that up
see section 3 of #1295728709306683482 INDEX regarding that, backup article
I already did
with the driver setup?
