By not turning off i mean the option is enabled and greyed out i cannot interact with it, asus device
By any chance, did you set a password for Secure Boot when you installed LM—the one the system asked for during installation ? 🤔
Is there any way to check if i dont remember? im pretty sure i didnt
It was off when i installed linux, its only today that i noticed its on while trying to delete my linux partition (which i was unable to)
oh do you mean the administrator password on linux?
what is your computer or motherboard ?
asus vivobook
can you go in BIOS setup boot options section and take photo ?
yeah 1sec
actually i depend yout BIOS setup version, take photo of Security section too if yoyu have it
Theres a "reset to setup mode"
only that ?
Yeah
lets do this
Wait was i supposed to reset to setup mode?
yes
you canno change Secure Boot control ?
... what choices do you have ? enabled and ?
Disabled
go for disabled, I think this is that since the begining
it does not disable secure boot ?
ok so no that's not this
wait a min... do you have some bitlocker enabled in Windows ?
Ive disabled it when i first installed mint
I did check today and i cannot find bitlocker anywhere on windows like it just doesnt exist anymore
ok wait a bit
Okay
i have similar laptop, i chekc on my bios
platform reset...
Meaning
no idea
Could it mean a bios reset?
no no
set an admin password
you'll remove it after
choose an easy password you can't misstype
This thing right
UEFI password settings yes
admin
Yeah i did set
ok, chek if you can change secure boot
Nope
okn forgot that, remove the admin password
go back to secure boot
enable secure boot control
go in key management, and take photo
ok, select restore factory keys
ok... secure boot still enabled I guess...
Yep
Save & Exit BIOS, but go back to BIOS just afater reboot
Okay
go back to key management
Yeah
select Platform Key, and Delete it
ok, save & Exit and go back to BIOS
nothing, BIOS is simply tricky and don't offer obvious and easy way to disable Secure Boot
Oh
so, you need to delete Plateform Key to disable it
Would this also fix the issue i had with being unable to delete my linux partition?
depend, from where are you trying to delete it ?
Never use Windows to manipulate Linux partitions, NEVER
yes, do that from Live USB, using Gparted
Oh okay
May or may not have added a partition a while back-
using Windows Disk Manager to edit paritions on drive with linux is a good way to wipe out your Linux pratitions
Windows is not aware at all of what Linux partitions are, it take theme as "invalid"
Oof okay ill keep that in mind
@neat tusk okay this may be completely unrelated to the secure boot issue, im not able to boot from a live drive now
Ive remade it multiple times too
explain... error message ? what happen ?
Just doesnt boot even when forced
Boot order is set to usb first, it still boots to grub (where theres no usb option)
Forcing it into booting from usb does nothing eithef
hem, USB also have grub, so...
But it dont boot from it
Which distro is on your USB, and flashed using what software ?
Ive tried with both mint and cachy os since (i need gparted), used rufus
currently, which one is on your USB ?
Right now cachyos
ok, in Rufus what option do you used to flash USB ?
well, you have Mint installed on that computer ?
Yeah
go to Mint, use the USB creator to flash your USB, once done, tell me
Okay 1sec
With cachyos?
let's try with CachyOS yes
Okay, what next
You know how to go to Boot Menu ? (F8 key) ?
F8 key does nothing on this
it should...
wait
you think ?
