@vague pier I know you helped me already so if you're still available to help, then I'd greatly appreciate it
take to windows computer this drive, or use Hirens Boot CD, and do a chkdsk /f on the drive letter in question
from an admin command prompt in the Hirens or Windows environment
eg: chkdsk e: /f
what will that do?
read up on chkdsk
kk
should clear the dirty bit
kk!
could any result of this process be file loss? would the drive have to be royally messed up to cause that, though?
I know it can't be royally messed up, I'm just checking
it wont cause file loss
as long as power isn't interrupted, or a violent impact during the scan
cool
there were a couple corrupt attribute things it seems
"Truncating corrupt attribute list for file <hex number>"
oh it's going faster than I can type lol
lots of messed up indexes it seems
let it finish fully. make sure u scanned correct drive/volume
then safely-eject it from windows via the appropriate icon
n plug to linux pc
if still having issue, run sudo apt update && sudo apt install gnome-disk-utility in your new OS
then run DISKS up, click the drive and partition in question; click the partition menu icon below the block diagram and choose 'repair filesystem'
