Description:

I like Mint and its collection of installed programs but I want to use paperwm so I have installed gnome.

The mint update tray icon appears correctly in an X11 season but not when using wayland. It does appear in the Cinnamon Wayland session

I can’t use X11 because trackpad gestures don’t work and they are crucial to my workflow.

I have the AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support extension installed so other “legacy” tray icons appear as expected.

Tested on Mint 22.3 (Gnome 46) and LMDE 7(Gnome 48)

• [Describe the issue in detail. Include steps to reproduce, relevant context, and any error messages encountered.]
Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Install Gnome ‘sudo apt install gnome-session’
  2. Log into a Gnome Wayland Session.
  3. Install the AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support Gnome extension.
  4. Reboot
  5. Log in to Gnome again.
  6. Mintupdate icon never appears in the top bar.

Expected Behavior:

Following the steps above the Mintupdate tray icon should appear 20 seconds after boot (the default startup delay).

Actual Behavior:

The Mintupdate tray icon never appears in the top bar. I confirmed that Mintupdate is still running in the background using the System Monitor.
