235 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
first make sure fast startup is off (NOT A BIOS THING)
what is that?
then, boot Mint from usb
wait i meant like i have linux on already

i just want to get rid of windows so that linux has more space
i know. still...
k my bad
cant resize while it's running
wait if its control panel, do i have to go back to windows?
i can
its just like kinda slow
alright i guess ill check if bios method is doable and if not, ill go to windows
well to be safe and proper
wait
u still have to do it from windows, even method 2
there is no bios method
alright it gonna take a while, im gonna like not respond for like 5 mins, can you put rest of steps?
ofc not, cuz fast startup IS NOT A BIOS THING
Then once that's done, see #1340832236630573187 message
do NOT delete the efi partition, nor any linux one ofc
alright
im done with the fast startup thingy
okay so uh
didn't use a usb stick to install linux
gotta either PXE boot off network then using iVentoy, or make a bootable USB
no idea what first sentence means so ill search on firefox
uh so i install iventoy on windows even if i didnt use it to like install linux?
uh hey?
no
sorry for being a novice
for LAN-boot, u'd need a second computer, and router
then the other computer hosts iVentoy and an ISO file of linux mint
this computer boots from BIOS > LAN PXE , discovers the service, and prompts you to boot the listed ISO it finds
uh router?
if that's too complicated, then use a USB stick
its complicated but i dont have a usb stick
if there are any complications with like how i innitially installed it, like i kinda used this method -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUl4aayKUXM

Thank you for watching!
well u can't do much now
either delete the Windows NTFS partition using the DISKS application in linux, and assign it a new volume
u cannot merge or move stuff around this way
open DISKS app and show pic of the hard drive
oh so like that extra storage is just gonna be like useless?
you said it can't merge
@jagged terrace when ready
i just listed the ones that pertain to Windows
oh
but run this in a MAXIMIZED terminal
is this what you mean by maximized?
lsblk -o name,fstype,size,partuuid,mountpoint ; efibootmgr
then check this again . partition 2 should no longer carry the play icon
ok install gparted
no idea what that is
it's a partitioner program.
do i use a command or is it on the web
i noticed you have a CD drive. is it a CD Writer?
no idea
right click sda3 in the list
choose delete partition
same for sda4
and sda1
then show it
done
right click sda2 and choose move
in the free space PRECEDING field, put 1 (MiB) then press tab
then the 'move' button . then show main window before applying
oh
alright
its 100
.kinda assumed the black space was the bar on top
okay resize?
right click sda5, and do 'move' put the SPACE PRECEDING field to 0 and press tab
u didnt change the 'new size' field, i hope
ok hit the button then show
i came to realize how much better screenshotting is with linux than with windows
ok right click sda6, and choose 'delete'
u deleted sda6?
ok hit the checkmark and wait a few minutes til done
okay and that should be it?
no.
alright, so im gonna wait a few minutes, can i ping when im done?
then u gotta do a test reboot and make sure this installed Mint properly boots
oh
keyword this
reboot now
ok open Disks app
okay
does the play icon show on the 100 MB efi partition?
uh im a novice, no idea what that is or what to do
see its name?
Ubuntu?
so just go to bios?
no
reboot and hit F12 for boot menu
as soon as u see the Dell logo appear
then choose the entry named MINT
okay
and give it 2 minutes to load up the LIVE ISO to a desktop
then show sda , the window of gparted. (take landscape photograph of the thing
see the key next to sda5. means mounted n running. so dont touch
right click sda7, and choose 'move'
then drag the sizer from the middle FULLY LEFT
so it butts up against the small 2 partitions
ok, drag jst its RIGHT EDGE all the way right
hit the resize button n show main
ok close the info box
And?
click the green checkmark and wait
what’s after
then if it finishes without issue, just choose reboot from the start menu
it should boot back into sda7 , your actual install
So basically just if it works go back to main install and pray it works?
yup
checked it?
Okay my bad took a lot more than 10 minutes but checking right now
Good news, it boots up!
Oh
It’s just 500 mb, not worth taking risks
done. u see the NIC entries?
those would be a good option to LAN boot
