42 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
type inxi -m this will show you occupied RAM slot with channels.
For dual-channel to be enable, you must have same same memory on two different channels, alternatively
its saying i have 2 modules but for some reason 1 module
im confusedi have 16gb but it says i only have one stick?
but i put 2 in
Example, here you have 2x 32GiB @ 3600 MT/s on ChannelA-DIMM1 and ChannelB-DIMM1
Device-1: Controller0-ChannelA-DIMM0 type: no module installed
Device-2: Controller0-ChannelA-DIMM1 type: DDR4 size: 32 GiB
speed: 3600 MT/s
Device-3: Controller0-ChannelB-DIMM0 type: no module installed
Device-4: Controller0-ChannelB-DIMM1 type: DDR4 size: 32 GiB
speed: 3600 MT/s
What do you mean ?
device 1 says no module installed
but i put 2 matching sticks in
this mean there is no Ram on that slot
well then why is it showing one as empty
should i reseat or is this normal
try sudo lshw -c memory
this will show you a more detailled resut
checl for *-memory and *-bank#
banks is the slots right
why do i have a single 16gb stick i thought i had 2 8gb sticks
im gonna look at the ram rq
Victus HP 15-fa
Something or other
Oh wait a second I put the 8 GB + 8 GB in the other laptop oh my god
I'm so silly I'm so sorry I need to look at the other one
I have two laptops of a very similar model
anyway, this one or the other, I doubt they are dual-channel capable
That's fine I just wanted to know if they were or not
this one is single-channel
this is most likely dual-channel
iirc dual-channel is when there are 2 sticks handled by 2 different controllers
laptops must have dual-channel RAM. Otherwise you're turning a shitbox into a double shitbox
laptops can boot with 1 ram stick it's only for performance
