#MacBook Pro 14,1 with Mint 22.3: USB 3 devices only work after "sudo lsusb -v"

After installing Mint onto my 2017 MBP 13", USB 3 devices stopped working. USB 1/2 still work, and Mint running off of a live thumbdrive also works fine with USB 3 devices. But after the install, no USB 3 device will be detected, not even the plug event, EXCEPT if I run "sudo lsusb -v". It has to be sudo, and it has to be -v. It seems to "wake up" the controller I guess? So question is: how do I fix this, without having to run sudo lsusb -v?

Steps to reproduce:

  • Take MacBook Pro 14,1 (13" 2017) and install Mint 22.3 on it
  • Attach a USB 3 device, e.g. an external SSD

Expected behavior:

  • SSD is detected and mounted

Actual behavior:

  • Nothing happens
  • Type "sudo lsusb -v" in terminal: SSD starts working and is detected and mounted
