hello, i have switched to linux mint last night. i have encountered a multitude of problems ever since and SO MANY QUESTIONS. one of which being me unable to view all of my disks like how windows would present it (disk C, disk d, etc…) yes, i have taken a look at the disk application and resorted to the terminal’s lsblk command. the displayed infos are as so:
(this was triggered by me wanting to save browser downloads in a non-disk C to save space for system files)
fyi: -i have no idea what are all the linux terminologies and abbreviations are, but is willing to learn and adapt
-the only terminologies i understand are windows’s
-my laptop was originally 1 TB in total storage

you only have one place to save stuff it seems. that's your root partition
hm, should it be presenting the 1 TB i had though?
if u have other drives, ensure they're plugged in, sata or m.2 ports turned on in BIOS, and storage mode set to AHCI
my disk C and D are inside the laptop (??if that makes sense)
as in it came with the laptop
check bios
will do, pls hold
i am now in bios
where to next?
can’t seem to find the option to change to AHCI
will have to poke around
wrong category
these are the categories available in configuration so far, excluding the time system
🥲
fyi: i am using a lenovo yoga 7i
check internal connections if u forgot to replug the drive
internal
well see Hirens Boot CD can detect it
hirens boot cd?
yes.
sorry, what is that😭
you prepare a bootable DVD or USB with it, and boot that up
so i burn a hirens boot cd into the usb and plug it into my computer?
it runs a Window PE environment. if your 1 TB drive isn't dead, it may show in there
but does it change my OS to windows?
u can use the included Mint usb image writer
no it's a live boot environment
and will it need much storage?
3 gigs on a usb

512GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0x4 NVMe (1 disk drive, maximum of 1TB M.2 2242 SSD) —found this info about my laptop through receipts, does this contribute anything to the discussion?
roughly translated the “1 disk drive, maximum of” part, as english is not my native tongue
it means it comes with 1 or the other - not both
ah, sorry. then my laptop is 512GB, with 256GB on disk C and disk D i think
how do i select another disk for downloads? i dont think i would want to download files on the system files folder (aka. disk C)
and i cannot change this fact, yes?
so no splitting them in linux mint then?
you'd have to use gparted-live or Aomei in Hirens
I’m lurking
mmmmmm
