#Discord fails to load chats or start over protonVPN after updating to Mint 22.3 (from 22.2)

I use protonVPN for linux all the time, and have never had an issue with it and discord. When I updated to 22.3, Discord will no longer open if I am connected to protonVPN (it simply sits idle in its start animation forever, but does not give an error). If Discord is already open, it simply begins saying it failed to load chats and errors out.

I have tried reinstalling Discord, but that did nothing for the problem. I am unsure how to proceed from here, if there even is a clear fix at all.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Connect to ProtonVPN
  2. Attempt to open Discord

Expected Behavior:
Discord starts and loads all its content as normal

Actual Behavior:
Discord idly attempts to start forever, never reaching a fully loaded state and spinning the discord symbol.

Context:
I just upgraded from Mint 22.2 to Mint 22.3
All other programs work totally fine (Steam, Telegram, Firefox, etc)
I have attempted to reinstall Discord to no avail.

does it work with protonVPN disabled?

If so, please try different servers. Discord might've banned the country where the server your system's connected to resides.
