Im getting a new laptop, specifically the ASUS Vivobook X512D, and was wondering about y'all's experience with Linux on ASUS Laptops. I'm planning to install fedora 43 KDE on it, and I just want to know if there's any caveats I should know about. Thanks in advance.

Currently using an Asus Vivobook 15 with i7-10510U and Nvidia MX250, flawless experience so far. Especially with Mint and Fedora. I had tiny issues in PopOS with dual booting. But otherwise all. So far did Arch, PopOS, CachyOS, Kubuntu. Fedora KDE and Mint so far are the best ones.

For any laptop you wish to buy you can either look at the laptop section in the archwiki, which covers functionality of many models with their shitty quirks in single community-maintained articles.

Either way, look for ACPI compatibility and WiFi chipset mainly (pray it's not mediatek). For WiFi it may be difficult getting the WiFi chipset name as many manufacturers don't include it in their product docs but rather just generic capabilities (for instance, for an Intel AX203 you might just find 802.11ax 2x2 + Bluetooth 5.2)

CPU/GPU just tend to work OOTB. Bluetooth too, you can probably assume that if WiFi works, BT should as well as many recent chips include both WiFi and BT modules. Sometimes issues arise due to bad implementations in the other devices.

You should always ensure you're using a HWE kernel.

Preferably you should get a laptop that has an Ubuntu/Fedora certification, this Vivobook probably doesn't.

But most consumer laptops don't

So it's up to your luck
