So right now my internal ssd has its filesystem corrupted. I've tried running commands like fsck but they're not being recognized as commands in grub. For now I'm trying to see if I can make a boot device and run mint in compatibility mode (as a temporary fix) but I keep running into KERNAL ERROR! PLEASE REBOOT IMMEDIATELY! (which is kinda a jumpscare all things considered). I've tried like 4 different drives by now and I'm running into the same error. Do any of you have recommended options for me? I only really have two folders I actually care about saving (my original sprites and 3d models), but they are big folders.

make a live usb and boot it in NORMAL MODE
and verify the ISO TWICE. first the one you got from the internet, and if that passes, then verify again right on the flash stick

Once booted live, you can run lsblk -f to see your device names and partition numbers and filesystems. You can then `sudo fsck...." the right one
Your advice was helpful. Specifically the manuals you showed me. Turns out it was my USB imager and not the USB itself. Now I just need to figure out the file recovery process for my internal ssd.
Would you recommend I download tools for this, or is this the kind of thing you try from the command line?
see if you get to a live desktop. run the included Disks app
click the drive and partition of concern, then the gear icon, and 'check' (or repair) filesystem'
then once done, click play, and the blue link that appears
I got a live desktop
Before I run a repair is there an easy way to shove the entire contents of my corrupted SSD onto my terabyte external hard drive as a backup in case things go wrong?
Nvm, I did filesystem repair and it all worked out, I rebooted and logged in and all my stuff was there and I am so friggin happy rn!
