I recently got a 5.1 setup installed at tv system, which is HP workstation with ancient AMD Oland card (dvi+dp), with dvi>hdmi adapter to tv, then optical out from tv converted to hdmi eARC (only plug on receiver).
It seems the default setup with pipewire etc, the video card can support "5.1 surround sound", but not on my connected setup, which makes sense as optical doesn't have bandwidth to pass raw 5.1 PCM audio. Using vlc set to alsa + spdif + media with DTS track did switch receiver to DTS and surround works (passthrough), and so does AC3 track.
I want to get DTS or AC3 (not picky) working via pipewire so everything will head that way, and the system will offer the 6 channels for vlc to fill.
I see guides to install things like dcaenc, but I couldn't get it working, since all the guides are either very old or are for pulseaudio (which we have left for pipewire)
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
