Hi !
Some times ago, I asked here about using a modern psu on a old socket A motherboard from 2003. And it’s working great !
The gpu I planned to use for the system, a GeForce 6800 agp is not working properly sadly. While in the bios menu, there is squares appearing at regular intervals. It somehow stop at the launch of windows XP, and then crash the system completely 20 second after.
The 20 second where I’m in xp work nice, even tho I didn’t manage to install drivers.
I know every other components work nice, as I use a fx5200 (64bit bus…). I can play some games, and everything is rock stable.

It’s an inno3d 128mb GeForce 6800. I took the heatsink appart, and everything seems fine. No burn mark and do bulging capacitors

I have a two question :

  • is it worth it to fix ? I don’t know where I can find an electrician for it. And it’s 20 years old. I also got it for free.
  • is it fixable ? I heard about baking gpu’s. And I already have an oven dedicated to random stuff. I mostly use it for 3d filament. I also have a heat gun, but it’s more for wall and removing paint.

In any case, it’s not a monetary loss. I got it for free, and im fine playing older game on the system. A fx5200 barely run half life 2 in directX 7.

What would you guys do ? Try to fix it ? Maybe there is another way to check the card, but sadly I don’t have another motherboard with agp x8

Thx for your helps !
