I installed mint cinnamon on my usb using rufus, everything works fine until i try shutting down my laptop. Either it keeps me hanging on a black bright screen or it gives me a kernel panic, anyone know why this is happening?

Only on shutdown, not reboot?

i tried it on 2 laptops same results

Does it boot normally after this?

#

Also does this happen at any other time besides restart or shutdown?

could the issue be my usb?

Ok, then go to the terminal, maximize the window and type

journalctl -b -1 -p3 --no-pager

show the result

Hold on.... are we talking about installed system, or the one running from usb stick?

Well if you're running it on live session - that command won't show anything

#

And you see installer icon on the desktop when you use it, yes?

Live session then, ok

my other usb is the exact same usb it has kali linux and it runs fine

i did the exact same steps just a different iso

Ok, so this won't be a problem with installed system, it's a quirk of how rufus handles mint iso.

You can remake the usb with Ventoy and even copy both ISOs on the same stick (if there is enough space), it shold be less suseptable to such things.
