#How to set gap between panel items and set panel item width/height?

I tried changing several things in the {theme}/cinnamon/cinnamon.css file and saw nothing happening. I basically want for applets to have a little larger space between them.

I'd also like to know if it's possible to change the width (or height, if the panel is vertical) of panel items (mainly the applets in usually the left).

P.S.: Using Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.2.

You can most easily deal with the spacing of things on any panel by using the 'separator' and 'spacer' applets, no need to go into any config files - this may seem a bit unintuitive at first, as you are really placing non-functional applets with no other function than providing spacing, but it works very well when you just know how to use it.

Right-click on the panel, then select "Panel settings" and you will see many options that can be configured, you can also control different zones of the panel for icon size etc. And of course, to move things around on the panel, you have to toggle the panel into editing mode (which makes it turn red), and then move things around.

No, as I specified you will have to use applets for that.

Right-click on the panel and select "Applets", then find the applets 'separator' and 'spacer', then click the + sign to insert one of them, just like you would with any kind of applet.

The space is movable/transferable if you set the panel into Edit mode

They can be moved like any other applet on the panel.

I understand, but this space would be masochist of me to want to add manually between every present and future items. My theme wouldn't be able to do that

As far as I know, there is no way to specify a default spacing between the items on a panel, which would have been nifty. If I am wrong, hopefully someone else will chime in with some more know-how here, but that is the only way I know of to get different degree of spacing between items on the panel.

It is cumbersome for sure, but in my use case, once the setup is done it is done, so for me it works, but not very practical, no.

Thanks though! I needed this because I see that since Windows 7 icons have more spacing in between, including Windows 8.x which is the inspiration
