#Linux mint Zara invalid magic number
98 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Distro hop time @fading garnet
I tried running Linux mint installer, on 3 laptops and none of them worked. After cinnamon I put a extra freeBSD and Ubuntu iso on my ventoy usb and the installer ran perfectly.
On both freeBSD and Ubuntu
Try Fedora
But Linux mint keeps having the same errors
he already said he tried other distros
@teal agate curious about what is happening?
His laptop is even worse than mine 🙏🏽😭
the problem is very narrowed then
Plus these are 2021,2023,2020 year laptops
It either falls on the USB or on the ISO
And they ran Linux mint before
Crazy does any off em have a nvidia gpu
Intergrated graphics on all of em
Did you try what Lax Owl mentioned, re downloading?
@fading garnet do you use ventoy
Yes
- Disable secure boot (if not done)
- Flash Ventoy with GPT mode onto the USB
- Put the newly installed ISO on the Ventoy USB (after checking the hashsum)
Try putting a working distro on one off them and using dd instead off ventoy
- Both my Asus and HP automatically set the secure boot by themselves when booting off a usb
I never touch ventoy i only use dd
(...) The efi thing has a manual entry for it https://discord.com/channels/628978428019736619/1295810542056902759, the magic number thing seems to be related to the ISO being used it seems https://discord.com/channels/628978428019736619/1274258708062539807, the person mentioned using alternative ISOs from mirrors (make sure to do the checksum)
- Already is
well seems this doesn't work
dd can be dangerous if not used correctly, should only be recommended as a final measure if you are sure on the steps
Yes I tried both cicku and Linux mint mirrors still nothing
Nah dd is the only thing i use ever since i came to linux
did you at least confirm the checksums properly on both?
I didn't say contrary
I'm actually just thinking of installing 22.1 then updating
I did, I can do it again and show
Are you a smart owl
I believe you, altho showing it def won't hurt
Alr wait a sec
I highly dont recommend relying on the laptop to set the secure boot automaticly
Problem is I can't set the secure boot myself
I can only on my lenovo

You should have this for Cinnamon 22.2
Why?
There is a powershell command from the Mint wiki if you doing this check on Windows
(Get-FileHash "<YourFile.iso>").Hash -eq "<YourHash>"
just verify the iso -both the one u saved first as above,
and the one on the flash drive too
a bad magic number indicates error with the disc image
super easy: #1420498286912999434 message
Gerata os seems nice asf
not the place for this, seems unrelated to support
Oops true
Back again had to do some housework
I just don't have the option on my Asus or my hp
Automatically sets itself
Depending on what I'm booting
hows the hash sum

That's ... a different hash
@split atlas
Fuck
Let me put cinnamon on the usb also and checksum it
It's obvious I shouldn't be allowed the check hashes 😭
we have instructions for that on the #📘wiki

This page is a guide describing how to install Linux Mint on a computer.
Linux Mint is distributed as an ISO image (an .iso file) which can be used to make a DVD or a USB flash drive that your computer can boot from. This guide will help you prepare, install, and set up Linux Mint on your computer.
Probably
do you have a Main PC where you can check your hashsums?
like one running a distro or Windows?
actually
What OS does the PC have where you downloaded the Mint isos?
Im currently checking the hashes with ventoy
Ubuntu
nvm
check on UBUNTU obv
if the shit u got to begin with is bad, then obviously it will be bad once flashed/copied to the usb stick
you can check with Gtkhash
you can also use the sha256sum cli tool on Ubuntu which comes pre-installed
sha256sum your-mint-file.iso
Well currently I'm download Linux mint 22.1 so if that doesn't work also then the usbs fucked
don't check on the USB
check directly on your Ubuntu install you use for downloading these ISOs
if the hash matches THEN check on the USB
above I have shared how to do it on Ubuntu
what was the problem with ventoy?
No idea, I just used startup disk creator on Ubuntu and it worked perfectly
At least that's taken care of
