So i'm a bit of a noob, and i'm trying to install linux mint on a separate partition on my SSD in order to dualboot.
So,, what do i do here ? I don't recognize anything

#

and this is another picture of it if it helps

Use "install alongside windows" option

simple siren
#

where is it ?

feral cloud
#

One screen back, where you picked "something else"

simple siren
#

Okay i'm going back

#

and now ?

#

Seems like it didn't detect windows being here

feral cloud
#

Then it doesn't detect windows install. Make sure you have "fast startup" disabled in windows, secure boot disabled in uefi, and you're booting in the same mode as windows (uefi or CSM)

simple siren
#

okay, I will try that, thanks

feral cloud
#

And make sure you're not using bitlocker

simple siren

I hope i'm not, and btw I already made a partition before booting linux. and by that i mean actual partition (i'm back on windows and somehow discord isn't letting me sending a message before 10 minutes with a 4 hours timer)

open Disk Management in WIndows

#

then maximize it.

#

if there's any mention of bitlocker there, disable AND decrypt fully.

#

then turn windows fast startup off.

#

then shrink the c: volume by 65 to 100 GB or more in disk management

#

then boot linux live and pick the 'install alongside' option. it MUST show that

#

#

i did that, i'm now trying to install again

#

didn't work 🙁

#

also i partitioned free space on my secondary HDD not SSD sorry

#

if you're in windows, do win+r keys, then msinfo32 and tell me the bios mode it reports

simple siren
#

I changed the modes in the bios

#

i changed from sata to something else

#

(i'm on linux rng now)

#

HEY IT SEEMS THAT I GOT IT

hollow prism
#

you're still doing it not good

#

@simple siren

simple siren
#

ah ?

#

what's wrong

hollow prism
#

close that immediately or back out of it

#

why arent u using the 'install alongside' option?

simple siren
#

because it's not here

hollow prism
#

hence why you're doing it wrong

simple siren
#

is it bad if I don't use 'install alongside' and I install it on the free space

hollow prism
#

go back to Windows.

#

do precisely what i asked there via msinfo32 and answer

simple siren
#

okay...
It says the bios mode is UEFI
(I can't communicate directly with messages on windows due to the stupid timer)

"Hibernation is not available"
@hollow prism

hollow prism
#

ok next, in windows. open powershell.

#

do powercfg /a

#

what's it state for fast startup precisely?

#

@simple siren

hollow prism
#

ok so carry on

hollow prism
#

at the minimum, it's a very inconvenient dual-boot result.

#

at worse, u overwrite windows

hollow prism
#

or something that wasn't meant to be overwritten

simple siren
#

Also, thanks !, i will try that

#

I'm back on linux, i booted it from the UEFI: flash drive

#

!!!!!!!!

#

IT SEEMS GOOD

#

uh, didn't know my windows 10 install was nonbinary

#

imma go ahead

#

!!!!! seems like it works

#

hell yeah finally

#

do note, the bootloader is likely on shared space on the nvme drive's EFI partition.
