148 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
how does one install it then? because i believe me trying to install it caused this
sudo apt install blueman
okay now what?
check the settings panel
well i finally got it but it didnt fix my original problem of my headset not apperaing
do rfkill --output-all command
what is taht supposed to do cause all it did was display like 4 things 3 being wlan and 1 being bluetooth
what's it say for bluetooth precisely?
1 bluetooth acer-bluetooth Bluetooth unblocked unblocked
oh wait nvm i read it wrong there is another bluetooth device
ok then look up the specific instructions on how to put your headphones into discoverable mode
3 bluetooth hci0 Bluetooth unblocked unblocked
ight imma try that
then after they're put into discoverable mode, click 'search new device' in toolbar of blueman app in settings
blueman app in settings?
when i search up blue or blueman the only thing that comes up is bluetooth
no blueman
if u didnt learn by now, it's the same thing
ahhhh
so i just click search? cause there is a thing labeled device but its grayed out
all i got is some 4k box
Blueman is the bluetooth manager.
wait how the hell do i find it then unless im just mentally challenged or smth
Ok, so what’s your issue again? From the messages I’m not sure if you’ve made any progress in fixing it. 😆
so ive aquired bluetooth back dont know how to get into blueman or whatever its called and my headset wont connect anymore after being able to connect it before
Blueman is the bluetooth manager used not just by Mint, it doesn't matter how the distro calls it.
It's just one type of Bluetooth managers you use on Linux and we call it "blueman" because terminal/system calls it "blueman"
It's this:
do should i have the adapter or the other thing cause i have that on my screen rn but it has nothing in it
Did you go to settings > Bluetooth and tried to click "Search"
put your headphones in discoverable mode
wait, do you have bluetooth on some other device too?
like turned on?
yes on my phones
then, and only then , click the Search button
my headphones are on and discoverable considering my phone has no trouble finding them and connecting to them
no cuz ur phone already knew them
(in all likelihood, they were previously paired to it, quite some time ago)
with earbuds, often putting them into their charging case, then removing them from said case puts them into discoverable mode for 2 minutes.
i mean yeah but ive also connected them to my laptop just yesterday and i saw i could connect them today once i turned my laptop on but then the option just went away and i literally mean it faded away
this list
yes from that list the option was there and then quite literally faded away
well if it picks up your or your neighbour's bluetooth-enabled TV, then it's not the computer or the OS probably
your RF channels are not blocked. Proven by rfkill earlier
Same thing happend to me on Windows but with WiFi then I found out the company that made the adapter isn't doing updates to the driver and system kept reminding me error: "Adapter(Hardware) suddenly disconnected"
so what should i actually reastically do then cause if i have to like reinstall the os i might do cause im still looking around at different types of os
wait, did u recently let some update go thru in Mint?
Run sudo apt install --reinstall blueman first in the terminal, then reboot.
This will reinstall the Bluetooth manager in case It got corrupted.
a new linux kernel or firmware?
new linux os like something different
okay imma do it rn wish me luck
no no im asking, DID U LET an update thru recently?
wait
i mean after the option went away i updated everything but that was after nothing before i dont believe
right.
Did you update the kernel?
well you can try a purge first.. this will clear any residual settings for blueman.
idk how to do that
Yeah
to purge and reinstall:
sudo apt purge blueman
then once it's finished, sudo apt install blueman
Then you didn't
may also be related to the bluez daemon. We'll find that out in a while after the reinstall above
i did it through update manager
right i reinstalled it
after purging as i wrote?
yep
ok do whereis bluez
bluez:
open up your System Monitor, and go to the Processes tab
in some titlebar menu button, there's a thing to select 'show processes from all users' . pick that
then click the list of processes > NAME header , to sort alphabetically by name
scroll the list to stuff beginning with bl
see if bluez or bluedevil is running
the only things beginning with a b is blueman-applet and blueman-tray
alright one moment please
and like 5 bwraps
Here are the main Bluetooth components that ship with Linux Mint 22.2:
User-facing application
__Blueman Bluetooth Manager__: This is the graphical utility for managing Bluetooth devices. It provides the system tray icon for quick access and offers advanced features not present in the older Blueberry tool, which it replaced in Linux Mint 21. With Blueman, users can manage pairing, monitor connections, and troubleshoot issues.
Core technology
__BlueZ stack__: Blueman uses BlueZ as its backend, which is the official Linux Bluetooth protocol stack. BlueZ provides low-level drivers and support for the Bluetooth standard and is the foundation for all Bluetooth functionality on Linux.
__bluetoothd__: As the central daemon of the BlueZ stack, bluetoothd handles the low-level management of Bluetooth devices, connections, and services.
__bluetoothctl__: For command-line management, bluetoothctl is a utility that allows users to interact directly with the BlueZ daemon. It can be used to scan, pair, and connect to devices, and is a powerful tool for advanced users or for troubleshooting.
Kernel module
btusb driver: For systems with a USB Bluetooth adapter, the btusb kernel module is used. This driver is included in the Linux kernel and allows the operating system to interface with the Bluetooth hardware.
open terminal, do inxi -Fxxxz @sinful ledge
ight i did that
then press Shift+printscreen for area-screenshot, and send me two of them. the first being the whole section of Network and Bluetooth
the second being the upper section for System and Machine.
@sinful ledge or simply search 'screenshot' in the start menu, and take an area shots of the two sections i asked.
would i need to blur anything?
wait what do u mean whole section of network?
Network: adf.adfja;lgja;lgja;gka;gajkglaj;g
Bluetooth: adlf;adjfladjfk;adlfkja;dfjad;lfkajf;dsajsdfjd;lfjaldfjas
You think he's missing some?
wut?
scroll down (or up) in the inxi -Fxxxz result.
maximize terminal
then show the relevant sections.
or send the whole thing
that's all i was asking for
ahhhh okay
anyway the driver is there
so do u maybe know what else it could be?
follow this: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=425923
you probably blew away the whole bluez thing as mentioned in great detail above in bold
He doesn't have BlueZ?
apparently didnt find much in the process list
nor from whereis
YES FINALLY
got it working?
yes all i had to do was purge it and install bluez and blueman again
mhm
Well, I can't help much, I've been on Linux only for a year.
I had problems that some of drivers just disapeared but I added them back and didn't have any other issues, meaning idk much about how to fix them.
idk why cause i had already tried that but finall thank you so much i am forever thankful
i see you have a huge hard drive. did u set up Timeshift Snapshots?
I just know each part of the OS because I like tinkering in terminal
whats that?
open the start menu: type "Welcome"
and read about system snapshots.
I recommend set up a manual one now (use the Create button in TS) and set up a weekly schedule in its setup wizard
ahhhh okay yeah im gonna set that up cause god forbid something happens
now that u got ur system to a good working state
questionable 😭
okay:)
My drive for Linux has only 128GB, his drive is big 🫡
i have 2 drives my windows drive is only 512gb
my linux one is a terabyte cause i didnt wanna lose windows just yet
if your OS is like 35 GB with programs installed, then basically u need another 35 GB - PER SNAPSHOT
damn
so u may elect to just do a manual snapshot, and no schedule
scheduled ones overwrite eachother at intervals
i mean couldnt i also delete old ones like old old ones?
it'll overrite pudding
oh okay so once a new back up happens it deletes the other one cool
eg.. weekly saving 2 means... in like 2 weeks from now, something extra old will be overwritten
ahh okay i think i get it
but should something happen bad to the os/ programs/ settings in the next whatever ... 8 days or something... u can rollback to today's
okay great thank you so much for the help
