182 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
i cant boot into my system i used to be able to with root and when i was in i deleted some steam games only the ones in the common folder and when i was able to boot into my main system it said the whole folder was gone
trying to the restore cmd with timeshift doesnt even work
😭
this is why u need to have a live usb
I hope you do.
@round lynx
note: messing with partitions with no experience is a bad idea
ESPECIALLY ones set to automatically mount each boot
boot live
wont i lose my stuff
no?
Trust Stunner, they know this thing
You're safe in his custody
:>
the live disk is a rescue and test environment
then launch the Disks app and take photos of each drive in it, and send here.
EXCLUDE the usb, cd/dvd, and loop
Open and maximize a terminal first. do sudo parted -l
and show that first.
ok terminal first
ok
wait how do i exclude the usb
go to disks app
click the nvme on the left.
(ct drive)
then click the EXT4 partition, and the play button and show
use alt-print key for window-only screenshot
click the blue link u see there
then check all your files are thhere
make sure the boot folder is there
vmlinuz,
timeshift folder
is vm supposed to just be in the main folder
i think it's in boot folder
lemme check
along with initrd
good
find the /etc folder and right click it
in top level
and choose "open as root"
u got /etc in root file manager open?
ya
type fst
it should highlight a file called fstab
double-click it
then maximize the editor and send pic
did u screw with this file?
like in wt way
i dont think i did
delete the bottom 3 lines
now wt
show again
go to beginning of second-last line and press enter
also go to beginning of line saying 'swapfile' and press enter
then show
press up arrow twice and put UUID=
on the boot line?
then copy/paste the uuid in from disks app, of partition 2
on the empty line
up arrow three times, i meant
on the hash under file system?
empty line
so under the /was
yes
yea?
have u got a uefi system running handy atm?
yep
like this?
thanks keiaa
least i can do 🤝
under boot right
press tab once or twice, and put what keiaa just wrote
that pic is the same
save the file
n close it, then in disks app, press stop button for p2
then gear icon: check filesystem
repeat for p1 to check filesytem
do i try n log in
open terminal
sudo cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab.bak
that'll make a backup copy
then plz dont screw with the mounts
make a timeshift snapshot rn too.
thanks
😭
i just gotta figure out how to not mess with the mounts n get my external drive to automount
\like wt settings should i not touch
just use the disks app
i did
wait
ya?

note that making changes with the DISKS app affects the fstab file.
so do be careful.
follow the guide.
if i follow the guide ill be good tho right
idk why the heck your root and efi lines were completely found erased.
idk either 😭
alright solved.
thanks so much
if need to fix the issue again u can now troubleshoot from live mode
and u can open root file manager as u did, and rename fstab.bak to simply fstab
to restore it.
then if it works make another backup as i has shown u with the cp command once you safely return to the real system
