Hey, i have a windows drive and a drive for linux. Today was trying to install mint on the second drive, but had many fails which got me nowhere. So issues are as it goes:

  1. Live boot doesnt work (hangs up on the mint logo after around 30s) and only boots on compatiblity mode.
  2. After installing in compatibility mode, i saw no option to select mint as boot. Just recently found out its in boot priorities cause grub went to windows drive efi. When i try boot there, its stuck on "Press ctrl + c to cancel checks" which doesnt work.

So, anyone wanna take the journey to help?

I have 7600x, 9060 xt 16gb, on MSI B850m mortar wifi board. Mint is latest aka zara 22.2

@signal quarry the reason you found your way into compatibility mode, -- is cuz your graphics card stinks

Too new?

static maple
#

so if you have time right now, can try some shit

#

what's the exact model of gpu?

signal quarry

Swift oc 2 fan

static maple
#

never heard of it

#

boot the live linux USB stick

#

and make sure secure boot is off in the UEFI BIOS

#

and make sure legacy boot/CSM is off. should be set to pure UEFI boot mode

#

I'll. wait.

signal quarry
#

Didnt see any csm options, so guess they not on

static maple
#

is the mobo also damn new?

#

within a year?

signal quarry
#

I built the pc yesterday

static maple
#

yep so it's probably only UEFI

#

something that new I've heard doesnt even give the option to boot legacy

my bad, I see it now

#

yeah 9060xt is not supported under Mint 22

static maple
#

then u can use the terminal to send us your specs without omitting anything

flat geode
#

it's too new. there is a way to manually tweak it (risking stability)

static maple

u can boot live, install, boot the install in special safemode, then install the latest kernel

#

called the "mainline" kernel which is produced by the God of Linux, at kernel.org

This stuff is crazy, having come from a steam deck. Laptop had broke so i ran on deck for 3 months in its own arch kde
