I'm a complete noob and i was thinking moving to mint instead of window 11 with the end of support for window 10. however i have both a SSD and HDD, i need to know if the installation remain simple or do i have to do extra step? mint looks really fun to customize and since most if not all my favorite game run well, including must of my software (goodbye photoshop, you suck), i would love to use it but if it too difficult i might have to use window 11 😔.

Should work as normal. I'm assuming you plan to install Mint on the SSD and use the HDD for additional storage. This is what I do, and it works fine, I even have the HDD formatted in NTFS (Windows file format) and it works great.

^ avoid writing heavily to NTFS volumes from within Linux. Else you may find that that filesystem corrupts over time

#
  • Turn off Windows Fast Startup. (not to be confused with some BIOS feature called 'fast boot'!!)
#
  • turn off Bitlocker if it's on
#

(that means not just turn it off, but decrypt the drive )

#
  • check in Windows "System Information" on the line that mentions BIOS MODE: you will be wise to know this, so you boot the install/demo USB stick with linux ISO in the same mode
#

He shows single-drive dualboot in the first 6 minutes. That would be if you want two OS to coexist on the same FAST SSD.

#

I would personally recommend physically disconnecting the internal rotational hard drive, if you've backed up to it, or it has important data you dont want to lose - BEFORE attempting any kind of messing around with installs

Yes, pretty much. i want to use hdd for additional storage. i do not intend on having both window and linux at once. and i'm gonna keep some files (blender projects and stuff, some of my artworks, etc) most, if not all my games are on steam or work just fine on linux even if they aren't explicitly made with linux in mind. i don't really care for anything else. guess i could also just save some of my stuff into google drive or something but i'm not sure since it like several GB of blend file.

I prefer not to dabble with anything physical. so i don't think this would be a good option for me.
