Why does Linux mint make my mic quieter even when I turn it up because my mic is quiet normally

How can I stop it from doing that

I vaguely remember the same issue here once before

I think they used some command or edit to alsa-base.conf or something to block gain

yeah it's a core system issue. not really a desktop one
