#Trouble making LibreOffice into dark mode.

Check and see if you have Dark Mode in your Linux Mint themes?
Linux Mint themes can override your program's appearance.
I have a custom Windows XP theme, let me go bog standard and get it dark mode
ok so that works. But I had a dark inspired Windows XP theme and i was able to set it dark mode
Did it fix the problem?
yeah bog standard works, but I would like to be able to set the application to dark mode while in the windows XP theme, I am certain it is possible as I had it done on my last mint install
no because its not solved.
What else is missing?
I want it on the XP theme but the application to be dark.
I had it done before, why won't it work now
plus the extension still doesn't work
yeah setting it to system mode sets it to dark mode (on dark winxp theme)
You can tell Libreoffice to ignore your desktop theme. Then set the colors individually. However, depending on what the theme does. It can still override your Libreoffice theme to a degree.
hmmm. let's try that out
That's the case usually with dark mode.
how do I tell it to ignore the desktop theme?
It only has light and dark. It doesn't look like Libreoffice has the option to ignore the desktop theme if it's dark mode.
so wait, libreoffice has a light and dark mode?
I can edit colors inside the document. But outside, no.
why won't it stick to dark mode
You may be able to with an addon. But if I recall Libreoffice is locked to your desktop theme. At least on the outer layer. The inner portions, you can change the colors.
This is a common thing with most old software. Such as Photoshop.
Tools/Options/Personalization
going to reinstall LibreOffice, it seems this verison isn't the newest anyhow
You can also try to download a custom theme for Libreoffice.
Libreoffice removed the additional theme colors section. Those 6 options are what we have for now. Could be security issues.
I see
Your best bet is finding themes in Github.
Libreoffice Themes in Github. Just make sure it's not malware.
GL. I settled on my desktop theme overriding the exterior look.
Nope, that dracula only changed the document, not the top part
ok im gonna last ditch try and install the latest version of libre
So it looks like for now Libreoffice abandoned it. Worst case scenario someone on Github will have a new solution.
odd. I installed LibreOffice 25.2 but when I check the version number it says 24.2.7
what is the deal there?
Was it a flatpak? It puts it in a different area if it's a flatpak vs terminal install.
Appimage runs directly from where ever you put it.
no, i downloaded it via the website and terminal installed it
Downloaded it will put it in a different area from terminal install.
You can also use the terminal to run the terminal install version.
ok, should I uninstall libreoffice first?
If you can uninstall the version you don't want, yes. I have two version of Blender. Just in case the newer version is broken. I can load the older version through the terminal.
ok, maybe i'll do that in a bit, because im not sure how to do such a thing
sudo apt remove plus program name for terminal installs.
There's also a command that lets you see all the apps/software you have installed. If you ever need to check what you have.
dpkg-query -Wf '${db:Status-Abbrev} ${Package} - ${binary:summary}\n' | grep '^ii' | cut -d ' ' -f 3-
It will show you every single thing installed. It's a giant list.
oh jeez
It's massive. But very useful if you think you have multiple versions installed.
As I said above. Your best bet is Github, Libreoffice themes. You can wait later for someone to have a solution. For over 6 months we lost grammar check. The team fixed it, removing some back doors built into the prior grammar check.
i see
Document editors are a huge vector for viruses and malware. They have it a lot harder than most software.
That's why the text editor world has been a mess since 1995.
I assure you in time it will get back it's features, or someone will make a work around.
i see
thank you anyways, now i gotta figure out how to force close frozen programs
let me try something
You can add in a ctrl+alt+del hotkey in your keyboard settings.
It should be under kill/terminate program
You can also install System Monitor. It's like the Windows Task Manager.
Got it. Also going back to the normal built in theme, it STILL wont change the theme, none of the themes actually work
Yeah, the theme thing is a common problem in all OSes. At least with Linux they are making more expansive fixes.
Extremely arbitrary but it looks like it will work now... for now...
(:
nvm, I restarted it and now its back to screwing with me
ah well. it is what it is, thank you anyways boss
Poke at it again with the next Libreoffice update.
