#Nvidia driver 390 for thinkpad T430 on latest mint

I think you would probably be better off using the nouveau drivers. NVIDIA Driver 390 is unsupported
@vital vale Boot a live USB stick, boot Linux Mint and backup everything you had on a new disk or to the Cloud, then reinstall Mint without the proprietary drivers, Unfortunately those drivers are no longer supported and in fact you only have two options, use Mint or another distro keeping the open source new drivers that are pre-installed or reinstall Windows
When I bought the t430 the seller had the intel only on in the bios thats why none of my attempts worked
I put it on Nvidia only and I think its gonna work now
@vital vale I am sorry to tell you that unfortunately it will not be like that, because that Nvidia is not supported anymore and every time you reinstall the driver, Mint will break because the driver is not patched for the new kernels, But even if it has an integrated Intel GPU you should still be able to use it well with excellent performance on your PC, even if Nvidia doesn't push it to the max with the open drivers.
Next time if I can advise you, get any graphics card as long as it is not nvidia
They are installed by default every time I install a distro
Unfortunately not, especially if the system crashes and does not boot, but you can boot a live USB and from there you can recover all the files
Im on a trip and I did not bring my usb I guess im gonna have to buy one
any distros you recommend that will work with my gpu?
Yes, it's convenient for you
Yes your card will work on any distro
I meant natively with the 390 driver
No sorry, they are no longer supported by any distro and not even by Nvidia
Only from Windows
Is there anyway I could get a fresh install of mint and roll back the kernal
I don't know, you could install an old kernel on new versions of Mint but also the Nvidia driver would have to be patched and it's a mess
This is why i hear people hating on nvidia huh
Yes, same to me
@vital vale I had a video card for the 340, after 6 months I gave up and bought a new PC, I gave the old one to my best friend with Windows on
question, does your CPU not have an integrated Intel GPU
it does
You can use that together with Nvidia with open source drivers
And you won't have any problems
