Im sure its been through review of someone or a team of people.
but im not sure what goes through the process of it, is it like vetted or does anyone geto be on the software manager market?
What goes into the Software Manager should've been checked. It's a gate keeper for sorting script kiddies out. The reputation is about the likes of Google Play & Apple Store. But I'm not the most experienced Linux user.
From my understanding most things you get with apt should be pretty safe, all built from source by maintainers, so up to how much your trust Mint and Ubuntu maintainers. Generally there are more eyes on what happens with these than flatpaks and snaps.
For flatpaks, I would avoid using things from developers/publishers I do not trust, and do regular check on if it is still owned by the people you trust, in theory a scam company can buy something and add whatever in the package, like happens with browser extensions and phone apps.
Again, from my understanding, you have to verify things.
