I got Linux to work yesterday.
my front headphone jack isnt putting out any sound but the system is detecting it? I was only able to get sound once i plugged my headphones into my mic.... however that means i can hear everything my mic is picking up

show photos of your mic, and the tip of the cord

#

and the tip of what you're using as headphones

#

so the usb is purely outfeed from the mic?

#

and the gold miniplug is your headphone?

#

use alsamixer command in terminal for base mixer

#

press F6 to choose the soundcard of the pc

#

maximize it, and look for front headphone jack, n press m on it if it shows an m (muted)

#

and use arrows to adjust its volume

#

then test the headphones on the front jack

#

it works just fine how it is but if i actually plug it into my PC it wont output any sound

#

pcm is all digital so not that one

#

one of default 1 - 3 is the real soundcard

crisp silo
#

Sending ss now

#

second ss is default #3

#

Definitely not anything HDMI. last pic might be it but not 100% sure, and also no luck there

#

unplug ANY digital external soundcards/ DACs/

#

or ADC (as would be the usb mic)

#

just to isolate what exactly is the onboard sound

#

also do inxi -Axxx at that point

#

i unplugged my mic and the headphones im currently using my wireless headphones but even theyre kinda staticky

#

device 3 and 4 there are what is of interest

#

i think device 3 is the main motheboard soundcard, probably only rear jacks

#

device 4 is so janky thing they use to make front jacks happen

#

check inxi -SCMA

#

uefi should say uefi date and not (legacy) after the term UEFI

#

and state what date you see

#

you probably need a newer linux kernel. that's why ur last 2nd-last pic showed "no options for this" in blue

#

note that your USB mic is essentially it's own soundcard. thus why u hear an audio stream coming out of its integral headphone port

#

u need to check the linux kernel shown in above command and the BIOS DATE

#

and likely get the Family 17h card actually up to proper mode

6.24.2025

twilit hill
#

insanely new

#

unless u just update bios last week

crisp silo
#

yea i tried to fix this myself i did some research and i found that i had to update my BIOS and do like M- flash ect ect and yea nothing new.. same issues

twilit hill
#

when was this machine/mobo released to market?

crisp silo
#

MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI
Released October 10, 2022

#

so this is what i downloaded the other day in hopes that it would solve my issue

#

a yr old version but thats all that pulled up

#

idk if u mind links to the support web

twilit hill
#

the sound didn't work BEFORE the BIOS update u did?

crisp silo
#

yea didnt work before

twilit hill
#

oh

crisp silo
#

yea just never worked ghbjnk

twilit hill
#

use update manager> view> kernels

#

try with a 6.11 series kernel

crisp silo
#

ig ill just install this last one

#

ok do i need to restart my computer ? o-o

twilit hill
#

well u have to choose one, and click install

crisp silo
#

all done

twilit hill
#

and after it does install, you reboot

crisp silo
#

oki

#

ok backk erm yea nothing?

twilit hill
#

check alsamixer now for the built-in audio

#

see if muted

crisp silo
#

crying everything is the same

#

erm this is fucking weird
i plugged in my headphones at the back of the tower.. it says mic in but i got curious
now the audio is playing through my monitor-

twilit hill
#

maybe Windows retasked the damn jacks

#

there's some linux app called something like hda jackretask i think

#

monitor is likely receiving the HDMI audio signal (only now somehow)

#

the newer kernel may be helping the GPU push sound now

crisp silo
#

ok erm

#

WTF so i plugged it into the shiny red thing and its working.. (L-OUT)

#

just says theyre speakers? idfc.. im just glad its working.. idec if its the back jack

#

thank u for ur help and patience w my dumbass

twilit hill
#

it says Line out on the jack label, and that would have been the proper place to start

just FYI, the right picture now makes sense that you showed the jacks on back. the right pic is the optical out stream (all PCM digital) if you ever connect it to a home theatre receiver via optical

#

though such receiver would have its own menu to set levels n balance for all discreet channels, anyway.

I AM SO SORRY
