network dead. this is seriously messed up. boot your live usb and do TimeShift restore from there
Legit just happened to me as well
Why would my Internet dying cause my PC to not boot?
@wind musk if one no longer has a USB with the os installed is he fucked
you'd have to make a live usb on a working computer then. and it's not strictly-speaking cuz of the network thing dying that the whole system's screwed. as you can see in the picture, WAY too many services can't start. This is likely due to major fuckage because they somehow removed a ridiculous number of critical packages.
if you have a timeshift snapshot done from a WELL-WORKING state of the system, then u can restore from that. just live boot.
@glacial tangle what were you doing when this happened?
I was trying to get drives to automount before I restarted and all this happened
i was trying to update my linux
i mean kernel
roll back to old one from grub menu if it's still available
I did that and it worked perfectly
but as far as im aware 22 is the current version?
i was thinking this was the issue
the kernel is not the distro. it's the linux core. it's "linux". launching system info from start menu will show you its version
How to get to grub menu if not shown: @glacial tangle
uname -r in terminal or a TTY, also states the currently running linux kernel
that is, if you're able to even at least reach a tty on boot
for that, it's probably a slight easier fix
oh?
I was using the disks app for it
https://youtu.be/AeR8Rk5LwWU?t=774 this should inform you a bit better on the nuances
In this video we look at the process of adding a new hard drive to an existing Linux System.
I had already given myself ownership through the disks app as well
@wind musk
I keep getting this error, I know that there is one bad block but does that ruin the entire drive?
no but did u edit out any bad mistakes from the real fstab?
obv not cuz it reports that error
just comment out all the bad lines from fstab
oh i didnt add default
is that the actuall install fstab?
the top one is yes
show whole window
are u in root mode editor?
not currently but I was when i made the changed
does the /games folder on the main OS hdd actually exist and exactttttt spelling n caps
and yes, u would need to add defaults
right after ext4 correct?
yes and are u sure the drive ur trying to automount, its partition is indeed ext4?
yar
ok then
did u SAVE the fstab file?
yes
as fstab
i pressed the X then save
were u in root mode editor?
sudo nemo right?
ffs
sudo xed
or if u opened the file from root nemo or root thunar, it would've opened already in root xed
@dim flint make your own post please.
its not
sorry for late reply, well, no timeshift as well. so what options do i have left?
i dont have any USB sticks available, but i do have a Tails USB
maybe i should try to update stuff?
did u get into the GRUB menu, and choose Mint Advanced options at that point?
how many kernels did you find, in Advanced options
4 if i remember correctly
and you tried all 4?
yes
any tried in 'recovery mode' ?
thats something i didnt try yet
the recovery thing works tho
fsck showed nothing
it brings you to desktop?
that menu
do u get to reach the desktop?
no it jumps me to cli
do u see purple screen ever?
yes
from there try an option that mentions dpkg fix
gives me some updating? im not connected to internet, as i mentioned NetworkManager doesnt work.
it did some updates, 0 stuff updated cuz no wifi
and when i try to connect to network it gives me bunch of red stuff
u have no ethernet?
I will say it's probably best if you boot Tails OS , if you need to use it to rescue any personal files, and upload them to onedrive or dropbox or google drive
then after that, use tails to see if u can install tails to the computer hdd.
once u install tails on the pc, (if possible), then use it to remake the usb with ventoy n flash mint iso to usb
then reboot mint usb and reinstall mint
otherwise buy 2nd usb, and run tails os live from first usb, and try to make installer for mint on second one
