I have been really enjoying Linux Mint so far but I have run into a potential deal breaking issue. My triple monitor setup is only able to display in 60hz, when my main monitor is set to 240hz. I have done some research and have seen that is is an issue with xorg/x11, I have done some workarounds I found online but it affects performance in games to a noticeable degree, I have also tried switching to Wayland and my screen stays black and unresponsive, is there any potential solution coming for Linux Mint or is there another distro I should look at?

I am running a triple head setup on 3x240Hz without any worarounds. What graphics card do you have AMD or Nvidia?

I have an Nvidia 4070, I think my issue is that only one of my monitors is capable of 240 while the other two are 60

In that case you should be able to do 2x60 and 1x240

#

did you use the integrated settings page or nvidia-settings to setup your refresh rates?

#

also what workarounds have you found on this?

I have tried both and neither worked, the workaround that eventually did work was this https://www.reddit.com/r/pop_os/comments/c5s4w4/comment/eu4rraw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

but when compared to my windows install I am getting worse performance after this update around 10-15 frames on average

what games are you playing, worse performance is expected on some games even with perfect configuration, especially non-native games

The two I have tried so far is Baldur's Gate 3 and Minecraft.

#

If it is normal to expect lower frames in those games I am ok with it, I have been enjoying the general user experience enough to deal with it.

Minecraft should run near windows performance if not better, at least it does for me (but I don't run Linux Mint so can't compare)

#

The refresh rate issue is concerning though, I have never heard of it before. So if I understand correctly, you set the refresh rate to 240Hz but you only get 60Hz refresh rate anyway (e.g. with vsync)?

X11 supports mixed refresh rates, maybe your compositor limits your refresh rate (would explain why I don't have this problem, I don't run a compositor)

#

Although there might be some tearing from time to time on the low refresh displays

#

I actually checked again I seem to have switched my setup to 2x120Hz and 1x240Hz and have not had any issues on X11, on wayland on the other hand I had many issues with the RTX 4070
