If I put my pc to sleep then try to log in again, I sometimes get a black screen with just the cursor. Using nvidia driver 570 with 1060 card. Any ideas?

It also goes black when i lock the screen for a sec before login screen appears, then on successful login goes black again before desktop appears. Not sure if this is normal behaviour.

just seen i'm on the latest version of 6.8 kernel, updating to latest of 6.11

Power Management in the launch menu, set it all to never, high performance. Ideally avoid sleep mode.
