I got stuck on the UEFI screen and cannot boot Linux, I might need help with the full process again.

I think only Ubuntu ARM64 can be VM'd currently on M2,3 maybe 4. see kskroyal youtube vid on it

You can also add legacy mode to the linux installer. If possible, try setting it in the BIOS to CSM/Legacy mode instead of UEFI. Just to see if it works.

also download is not equal to install. two distinct and different things.
