#Issue on unallocated space

I just got done with deleting my Windows partition, but I can't somehow use that unallocated space to my Linux. I've tried to resize my Linux partition but all that does is make an extended partition with unallocated space inside of it, do you guys know how to get out of/fix this? Picture for reference:

What partition are you resizing to take up that Unallocated Space?

This setup looks pretty confusing to me, wait a minute.

ok

lucid elm

you have to resize using live mode.

#

with gparted

#

ensuring nothing has the key icons , which mean in-use

young solar
#

Where is the live mode?

lucid elm
#

dont mess up or delete the efi / esp

#

boot live ISO

young solar
#

so boot from a different iso like in a USB?

cuz it's all contained in an extended partition

Alright so I did some simple resize -> and put that thing inside of the extended partition again, what should I do next?

lucid elm
#

move the thing with esp flag to the far left within the extended partition

#

then move the linux partition,

#

then grow it (resize) it toward right, click drag its right edge

young solar
#

The EFI?

lucid elm
#

esp

young solar
#

Where to?

lucid elm
#

put 0 in first field, then hit Tab

young solar
#

It gave me a warning, that my system wouldn't boot

lucid elm
#

always oes that

young solar
#

Alright so "OK" button it is

#

Should I click the ✅ symbol now or should I do something before doing that?

lucid elm
#

u can do the other operation too

#

resizing/moving the linux partition

young solar
#

Oh okay, should I resize my ext4 so it takes up the unallocated space right? I almost forgot

lucid elm
#

yep

young solar
lucid elm
#

yeah that looks right

young solar
#

Should I do something with /sda1, /sda3, and the last unallocated space (though that one was normal, I heard) before leaving the iso? Because i think they are leftovers from Windows

lucid elm
#

apply the big checkmark first

young solar
#

Yeah it's doing the magic rn

lucid elm
#

i'd just leave the others alone

#

if you're dying to get the 423 MB back, u can read up on how to grow an extended partition. Wouldn't touch p1 tho

young solar
#

Alright it's done, I log off and go to the actual OS now?

lucid elm
#

yep if it finished all fine

#

how is it looking, @young solar ?

young solar
#

I can finally format my friends shady USB back to FAT32 and give it back lol

lucid elm
#

you could even from here delete sda3, and make a new volume there

#

and put daily comics there.

#

or slap some mp3s in it

young solar
#

What's that? 0_0

#

Oh ok lol so it's just windows scrap haha

lucid elm
#

sda3. delete, and format that space.

#

can be ext2, Fat32, or ext4

lucid elm
young solar

I'll probably just format them too and extend the partition once more tbh, if I had the time to boot from USB again

you can buy a bigger one, ventoy it. then u can have it bootable and keep backup files or whatever on it
