#Disable RST without breaking

Hey there, here are the steps to safely disable RST:
- If you use BitLocker encryption, make sure to decrypt the drives and disable it before going further
- In windows, open start menu (or press Win + R) and type msconfig
- in the opened window go to boot tab and check safe mode, click ok
- Reboot in safe mode
- Reboot in Uefi settings, and turn off RST, save settings and restart.
- Boot in safe mode (again)
- Go back to msconfig and disable safe boot in boot tab, click ok
- Boot in normal mode.
Windows should now boot correctly with RST off, and you can install mint
.
Should I follow this even if I wouldn't want windows right
If you don't want windows, just turn off RST (switch to AHCI) in uefi and save
Ok in the photo u see, I am not sure how to change to ahci, I don't see any option
Lmk if u do know it
Really Appreciate the response btw
Try hitting enter, see if you get a menu with options
Thanks, it worked
You're welcome )
One last question, does enabling snapshots help? Like do people use it?
If you mean timeshift, it's like system restore in windows.... that actually works. It's nice to have in case something goes very wrong, then you can at least roll back
System snapshots
Okk interesting
Yeah, that's timeshift in mint
Hello Maniak. Can I ask you something about this? it's missing a vital thing imo
Sure, what's up?
I had someone follow that list, but it turned out rather disastrous. They had Bitlocker encryption on the RST'd drive.
Can you edit the list and add a step 0 ( or renumber the steps otherwise) to make the first thing to do is: Check the Drive has NO Bitlocker on it. See in Windows Disk Management for any mention of Bitlocker on any partition. If there is, then you must both turn off Bitlocker AND fully decrypt the drive before proceeding to do the RST turnoff.
(this is when they want to keep Windows in a dualboot, not wipe it)
Done
alright thx
Bitlocker wasn't even a thing on Windows home, and now I hear microsoft is forcing the thing
add that they must disable Bitlocker PLUS decrypt the drive. (I've seen half-assed attempts where they turned it off, but didnt do the full decryption, which takes like 5 minutes)
I use ur post as a solid quick reference to others sometimes
