#How much space should Timeshift have?

I was suggested to make a 150gb size partition for my Timeshift screenshots - how much should Timeshift have in space for itself compared to the partition containing Mint itself?

For reference, I have an about 50gb partition for my Linux Mint installation, so should I assume the Timeshift snapshots need about 3x more than it usually?

background on the matter: one snapshot saves an exact copy of your whole OS folders and files as they currently are. (usually and by default excluding visible and invisible home folder data.

#
  • a fresh OS install takes up about 10 GiB
#
  • add a bunch of programs, especially FATPAKS (flatpak), and that grows to 20 or 30 GiB
#

if u make just weekly snapshots, and retain 3 always (on the scheduled mode), that's 90 GiB in snapshots

#

plus if u do an on-demand snapshot at whatever point, add another 30 GiB to that
