So basically since Windows 10 is coming to an end and I kind of hate win11, I wanted to switch to mint a bit early so I can get to know it better before I switch to it full time. So I downloaded the cinnamon edition iso, used balena etcher (later also rufus, that made basically no difference). I boot from that USB drive, do click the first option and now I am in the live os and I can’t do anything because my keyboard and mouse doesn’t work or anything else. I even tried to plug in a different keyboard; that made no difference. Then I booted a few more times using Rufus instead of Etcher, different USB ports, neither keyboard or mouse were working. Also I saw some things on terminal when starting it; I will add a picture of that.
#Doesnt recognise mouse and keyboard or any other usb pheripiral

try a few things:
turn off Fast Boot in BIOS.
turn off Fast Startup in Windows.
verify the ISO image you downloaded and get new one if checksum mismatches
tried that aldough i could find the Fast Boot in BIOS i ded the rest of the stuff that you said and nothing changed
did u verify the ISO you saved to your hard drive from the mint website?
i tried to but i just didnt understand how to do it i tried to follow the instructions but some options where not here
have a look again in advanced or boot settings of BIOS. The thing that may be the issue is Quick boot
you're working on the Windows 10 and it boots up fine right?
yes
how old is the pc? know the release date to market?
its cosutm build with an amd am3+ cpu and some gigabyte mobo
when built?
im not sure i got it from relatives, but i can send you the mobo model cpu gpu etc if needed
first pop into BIOS
in it's main screen it should list a BIOS or UEFI date
or in an "information" category
and dig thru again for "quick boot" "fast boot" something along that terminology
Okay i just cant find it, how about we hop into vc and i can screenshare the thing nobody has to speak maybe you can catch it
and boot category if there is one
i belive that there is no boot category
mkay boot to Windows plz
once at its desktop, do windows key+r shortcut, and run msinfo32
then state what it says for BIOS mode:
Legacy
ok next go to the place you saved the ISO
alr im here
what is it $user/Downloads ?
umm its in the downloads folder yeah
if u open powershell in Downloads
you dont need to put -Path and the path. just the filename. (tab autofills long names)
then compare hashed results. ensure a match.
the one in the website
ccf482436df954c0ad6d41123a49fde79352ca71f7a684a97d5e0a0c39d7f39f
the one that i have
CCF482436DF954C0AD6D41123A49FDE79352CA71F7A684A97D5E0A0C39D7F39F
they look the same to me
good then
now open Disk Management
I presume your "C:" drive is on a disk 0 , yes?
confirm that
based on this it is on disk 1
yeah but are u SURE c: drive is on disk 0 ?
do sel disk 0
then list volume
or just show Disk Managment maximized. way simpler
ok, of these shown, which one were you planning on putting Linux on?
note that since Windows is installed as Legacy, you will need to install Linux OS as legacy too if you want to more easily dual boot. (still possible thru boot key if u do it in uefi mode, but not via GRUB menu)
no i am planning to enter the liveos install balena etcher clone the windows drive to my external harddrive and then just install linux mint on the whole drive because i am planning to switch there full time but keeping the backup on the extarnal drive just in case
try this: #1295816480256163892 message
remake the usb. use gpt mode as per step 4b
n put the known verified iso from Downloads on it
if uefi usb boot doesnt wanna go, then try legacy usb boot
the gpt just puts me in a weird screen that says something about bios things, so how do i do this exactly "then try legacy usb boot" from the rufus or in the startup device selection menu somehow or where?
hang on.. so u made a ventoy using the gpt option in its partition configuration menu?
Umm could you explain this in more simpler terms
this is my rufus configuration
and this is the result
did u follow any of this?
yah that picture is indicating in red writing exactly what the issue is.
u set up rufus to make a UEFI-only boot thing
Oh im so sorry i didnt read the whole message and i didnt see that i needed to use the ventoy. im gonna do it rn
so likely just use ventoy with all defaults, dont touch anything in its option menu
okay im in linux mint live now and we are in the same place we started from the keyboard and mouse arent working
so it's stuck .
did it eveen show the Linux Mint green big logo after u booted it from ventoy screen?
it did when i picked the ueffi something in before the usb name but then it didnt show the logs but then i used the other one and it did show this and then booted into unresponsive linux mint os kind of because when i push the power button it offers me the shutdown menu
didnt quite understand all taht
can u boot the ventoy up to its second white screen. then run checksum on the mint ISO from there.
ensure it matches the website one. I am thinking your usb flash cells are broken
@pliant token
the checksum is the same as the one in the website
sooo what do i do
well if you can't even boot the Mint ISO, there's nothing you can really do
you verified it right on the stick using method above, my last pic
right, @pliant token
You might have misunderstood me i can boot into linux mint live desktop page but none of my usb ports are working, as a previously stated "and we are in the same place we started from the keyboard and mouse arent working"
from your PC's temporary (one-time) boot menu, you should see something like this
Yes i see that
I'd advise to research this. AMI (American Megatrends Gigabyte UEFI DualBIOS)
and see how to turn FastBoot off
aka Quickboot in some BIOS nomenclature
that's what's likely blocking the keys/mouse/usb stick boot
