Hey Guys,

I used Linux Mint on my Office Laptop and fell in Love with it. So I decided to remove Windows 11 from my Gaming PC and Install Linux Mint.
I have a Tripple Monitor Setups, the Monitors have not the same refresh rates.

So, I played CS2 and noticed that I have high FPS but the game is not running smooth as it was on Windows.
I Googled and read that Mint have a Problem with Monitors on different refresh rates.

I tried different thing but It did not make it better.

Do you have any recommandations of what I can do to play smoothly on Mint? Or is Mint just not the right Distro for my use case?

My System is:
Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
AMD Radeon 6900XT
32GB RAM

it's not the right case distro

#

for similar base to Mint, but wayland ready: Tuxedo OS

Thanks for you answer.
How about Manjaro? Would this be good because its also KDE?

silver wagon
#

less stable

#

what ever you choose, if you go with KDE Plasma, it has to be KDE 6 and higher, and have full Wayland support

keen sierra
#

its better if you go with tuxedo os (like stunner said) or fedora kde

#

theres also kubuntu (but it uses snaps)

strange sonnet
#

allright, I will switch to Tuxedo OS... thanks!

#

I will do it just now so I can give you a Feedback in I think 1 or 1,5 hour

#

Is Linux Mint in general not the best Choice for Gaming?

Ooof okay... good to know.
So I will Install Tuxedo now

#

Sorry if the question is dumb
Tuxedo ask me if I want it with X11, should I choose X11?

#

Or should I use Wayland?

keen sierra
#

well, kde (desktop enviroment used in tuxedo os) has an option for switching to x11 and wayland

#

based on what people say, wayland is smoother and more recent than x11

#

and wayland is better for high refresh rates and when you have multiple monitors

strange sonnet
#

Okay thanks! So I choose Wayland

#

To late my friend. Based on the recommendations from Stunner and aewwwe I install Tuxedo.

But I appreciate your help

I installed Tuxedo.. on the first look I don't know If I like it (maybe I will check FedoraKDE on a Live System) but I accidentally deleted the hard drive with my games on it so I have to wait for the download of CS2 😂 😅

dosen't matter, I leave the PC on for a night and all games are back

I would recommend visiting the KDE settings for appearance. grab the GLOBAL theme u like

#

there's one called "Aero Se7en" that is quite nice

#

another called "Expose Air"

strange sonnet
#

I see, I see Thank you!

silver wagon
#

or "Exposé Air" as it would be known in French way

strange sonnet
#

can you tell me, is there a Big Difference between Tuxedo and Fedora?

strange sonnet
silver wagon
#

yes. fundamentally they are different

keen sierra
silver wagon
#

tuxedo is based on Ubuntu and works similarly package-wise to Linux Mint 22 and 'buntu

strange sonnet
silver wagon
#

Fedora is its own thing

keen sierra
#

fedora is bleeding-edge (semi-rolling release) and tuxedo os is a lts distro based on ubuntu

#

they are pretty different

silver wagon
#

based on red hat history and uses different package family and handler for 'RPM's

strange sonnet
#

so its worth it to check it out on a Live System?

silver wagon
#

well u could, but give each a full day of testing

strange sonnet
#

allright

#

thanks guys

#

but for now I'm excited to see if my Game is running smoothly

eh, go to Appearance: Colours

#

set your preferred colour scheme, or "get more colour schemes"

#

if you're familiar with Mint, I recommend putting the Settings into Large Icon view, instead of categories on the left.

#

when you hover on any large icon in settings, if it has sub-groups of settings, they will show on hover.

strange sonnet
#

am I blind? where do I find large icon view?

strange sonnet
#

now everything is working fine! Thanks again!

strange sonnet

I don't see this settings

silver wagon
#

i cant read the language

#

but im sure it is right there in middle, right in front of eyes

#

or top left

#

the 3-line menu maybe

strange sonnet
#

nope

strange sonnet
silver wagon
#

3-line menu button

strange sonnet
#

nope, in the 3-line button there is not option like this

#

but it dosent matter

#

I'll get used to it

Jan 26, 2024 — I don't understand why the kde developers removed the icon view for the settings part. This was very useful compared to the sidebar view. If ..

solution suggested by a kde user:

It’s actually not difficult to make one.

Open Dolphin.
Create a folder.
Link “/usr/share/applications/kcm_*.desktop” into it.
Now you have the icon view. Create a bookmark for it.
#

to link, you select all those kcm .desktop files, then ctrl-shift-drag to new folder , OR right click: create link(s)

I see. yes this works
