check power and data cables on the HDD
there in
was working just fine on windows
what type of connections?
internal
did you mount the drive
SATA or the very very old IDE
im not sure what you mean
Cant mount what the system can't see
how do i fix this?
are you sure it's a mechanical hard drive?
yes
ive had my pc for 5 years
can u open a terminal and type in lsblk (then enter)

what size is your mechanical drive?
1tb
i would shut down fully, and reseat the cables at both ends
finally, type in sudo fdisk -l
did this
also make sure that SATA port is turned on in BIOS
brb then
yeah maybe its just not in all the way
Cuz it's not reading the controller at all, thus not really a partition or filesystem issue
It says sata operation
Raid on
maybe turn off raid, set to ahci
its not your boot drive so should be fine
well u may have to reinstall if it cant boot the nvme
OMG
IT WORKED you guys are life savers
😭 you don't understand how happy I am I've been wanting to switch to linux for years
thanks a lot guys
now if u run lsblk you should see the drive yes?
and it boots nvme just fine now?
I opened disks and it pops up
koo
so i guess they setup raid after? not with the hdd? neat
word of caution:
if ur gonna use it with Linux, reformat it to ext2 or ext4
or do half at a time and move data over
do I just click format drive?
no no no
if its empty
it is
absolutely 0
go to top right dots menu,
gpt or what
yeah
n make compatible for linux, put label, etc
madhddskillz
that's so tuff
HDD1,
ST1000
no
I was looking at the fat
ur linux os is all on the nvme, including an efi boot thing hopefully on the nvme
ur not selecting the 1tb drive ur selecting the nvme
yeah anything with star icon is system use
cool
I had already formatted it
ah
there is no "c" drive in linux, it's called the "filesystem root" and it's partition 2 of your nvme
try it
what are viruses like on linux and how wary should I be?
since it makes up 4% of the market share
u can use clamav to scan the stuff u run with wine
does linux mint have built in anti virus?
figured
is there one on software manager?
search it in there, i gave a suggestion
ur browser generally takes care of most issues if you use something half decent like chrome or firefox. just ensure you have "ask where to save files before download" turned on so that nothing is downloaded without your explicit consent.
clavmav?
I have brave installed
is that good?
its fine, just turn on "ask where to save downloads"
this will prevent any random shit you click from auto-downloading a file
it's on automatically
thats all you really need these days. if you want to click on any link you think is sketchy just open the link in a browser sandbox like browserling
okay
man this is so cool
I like how clean and simple linux mint looks
and how smooth everything is
also is there a equivalent of task manager?
or perhaps a command?
oh system monitor
htop
wow
is a command line tool you can use too, but you need to study the commands
just wow linux is idling at like 5% of cpu usage
I feel useless with the 64 gb of ram I got lol
where is my gpu in here?
it's not, but u can install a flatpak app from software mgr called "Resources"
or nvtop for terminal based monitor
or "btop"
what does btop look like 😮
damn
is that awesome or what
there are also things in mint cinn. desktop called DESKLETS. they can be handy displayers of stuff like hdd space, calendar, time, temperatures
how does one us desklets
htop looks like shit compared to that
is that like the ricing t=hing
yeah like this
I have a whole second display I don't use so adding a ton of desklets would be cool
how is yours read
u can see desklets, applets, and everything else in your system in "system settings" faved in ur start menu
red*
you can change terminal preferences and change font colours. but that specific red one is a different system that's running ubuntu
how does on do that
right click terminal in your dock at the bottom, then preferences
was wrong, there's no gpu in btop
then you click under profiles which says "unnamed" and from there you click the colours tab at top
my epic games keep saying
but search "geerling system monitors for linux" on youtube. he presents some very cool ones
verify update and then doing nothing
do you guys know how to fix this^
wine update?
hmm
im asking
yuo
what does your inxi -Gxx command show ?
blank

i guess it would monitor the elgato thing if u have no cam
yeah my capture card
alright mark this solved. do some exploring n stuff
it fetches thru software manager. the first 7 or 8 may be friggin huge cuz of core files needed
it's all set up in Mint
it says it's on
and I'm trying to install something via flat pak
but it's not working
hm
it's working now I think
keep in mind the first handful are huge
ok im out. tc
