first you'd need a blank spacious drive or NAS to put all the backups

timeshift, u can set to backup 1 time a week or once per 2 weeks if u dont mess with the software/system much

you can either schedule it, or do a manual snapshot at any time

#

you may elect to include hidden home folder items onlh. this is where personal settings are, but also bloated caches

#

can emoty caches out from web browser or using Bleachbit

#

personal files you can just backup manually to a dedicated usb

#

or use the Backup utility for them, or grsync

#

for both timeshift and other, it's best to use an offline disk

#

eg. not electrically powered usually, and kept somewhere safe.

once that's set up, search /research truecrypt

#

if u want to fully reinstall, that's up to you.

u just run timeshift again and pick spurce device
