I have a friend who uses Fedora and he has been trying to get SteamVR to work, are there any ways?

While my best answer is that there almost certainly are ways, it would be easier for others to help if your friend was here directly

#

I recall a long time ago hearing that GNOME was problematic with VR, if he's using that, no clue if it's fixed yet

hellou! It is me, said friend (croissant said to join this server)

The issue's I'm running into are:
steamlink doesn't detect a meta quest 3, even though it's plugged in via cable

Steamlink on the Quest says the laptop I'm using is unavalible for VR streaming

Steam link doesnt support linux afaik

#

your best bet would be WiVRn

It would be strange for Steam Link to not support the Steamdeck, at least. Could it just be an issue with supporting Wayland?

I'll probably just end up dual booting windows for vr then

It ran horribly and I couldn't press play

And then it shortly after started to have issues actually finding the computer likely for firewall reasons

Try ALVR. That has an option to go by cable.

Also please read the Linux Troubleshooting page on the ALVR wiki. Everyone misses it, and then asks why they get a black screen.
