Super short question, but i have an iphone and im trynna get data off of it, which apple has made very easy by making their phones compatible with nothing besides macs

So, i just need to get photos and videos off and I have drive space, but my options seem kinda limited.
What I was doing was going through individually in Nemo, the file explored. This is taking too long as my phone has trouble sending certain files over for some reason? I also have to delete them afterwards.

I tried localsend and a few other apps, but the problem is my computer only has wifi. Like I didn't understand how localsend was supposed to work? I have my phone physically connected via lightning cable thingy to my computer, but I think it wanted me to essentially "airdrop" photos?
Chat im kinda lost

see if App store on iOS has Warpinator

#

you can use ur home wifi router, your phone, and a linux pc running warpinator to transfer entire folders or files to and from.

#

or just use USB wire, and copy all the camera roll folders from the iphone to a dedicated folder on the pc

#

once ur absolutely sure the photos reside on pc and are viewable, then delete your camera roll, and the "recently deleted items" safety folder of camera roll from the phone itself

#

note> dont let the phone autoscreenlock while usb transferring or else big crash

#

disable automatic sleep/screenlock on the phone til you are done

KDE Connect might work for that if Warpinator doesn't

neat crag

I think kde connect is only for Android unless they did something new very recently

I'm pretty sure it's on IOS now, I don't have an iPhone to check though shrugcat

LocalSend should work through WiFi. If you need to get a lot of photos and videos off of it though I would certainly recommend using a USB connection, if not then I would try LocalSend again. It works as long as your devices are both on the same network

and they dont always line up with dates, tho i think they are supposed to be individual months (?)

neat crag
#

it's ok, you can sort later

#

sort by modified, all .jpg

#

in a search, once it's on your computer

Good evening, I recommend you to use IFUSE on Linux, it really helps you a lot with the iPhone, it allows you to copy and cut any information from the different apps inside the iPhone or at least in a great majority. IFUSE has an official repository on Github where they explain you how to use it, nothing complicated.

and if so, do tell what worked best for you.

has anyone tried suggesting using a cloud service?

i hate apple so much

neat crag
# fluid cipher no

what kind of files particularly are you trying to send out of your iPhone?

fluid cipher
neat crag
#

heic?

#

some kind of video format?

fluid cipher
#

image

#

apple's special one that you need to have special software for to open

neat crag
#

are those all in your "camera roll" ?

fluid cipher
#

yea

neat crag
#

when you plug your unlocked and un-asleep phone to computer via USB cable do you get to see all the camera roll? it should show up as a DCIM folder as if it was a digital camera

fluid cipher
#

DCIM folder

#

yeah i can get that far, but there are a bunch of problems transferring files

neat crag
#

if that doesn't get you what you need, then try this:

#

install an iPhone app called "Documents5" by Readle

#

it may now be Documents6 idk

fluid cipher
#

lol shady ass app name

neat crag
#

then open the app, it's like a mini file browser

#

make a new folder in that app , call it Transfer

fluid cipher
#

ok i have it

neat crag
#

or call it PeanutButterNJelly, I dont care

#

then from within that app, u can browse your camera roll.

fluid cipher
#

weird it needs a "server"?

neat crag
#

select one or two things from your camera roll, (as in, put tick marks on them) and do 'copy to' or 'copy'

neat crag
fluid cipher
#

damn mb hol on

#

ahh i see what ur talking about

neat crag
#

then anyways, COPY those things from camera roll INSIDE OF THE DOCUMENTS APP, to the transfer folder

fluid cipher
#

ok small problem with that app you want

neat crag
#

then enable this thing in its settings icon called "WIFI DRIVE"

fluid cipher
#

it needs ios 16 and my phone is already on its last legs

neat crag
#

then note the IP address that it says, "this iphone is IP adresss xxx.yyy.zzz.xxx"

#

then just log to browser on computer, go to that ip address,

#

then acknowledge yes on phone,

#

then download all the stuff in the Transfer folder

#

ie: right click : save as, on each image

#

you may also use a better file manager to do it on linux, it's called Krusader.

#

and u let Krusader set up a webDAV connection to the phone, using the same IP addy the phone said it is.

#

then u can just copy from the Transfer folder using Krusader file manager on pc

fluid cipher
#

hold on i got another app that works the same this is cracked information

neat crag
#

just make sure the phone doesnt timeout and go to sleep while transferring or browsing via webDAV

fluid cipher
#

but first off apple wont let any of the apps work so ive been stuck transferring files from my phone individually

#

its split up into different files in the iphone's dcim folder, which really isnt that bad

neat crag
#

ok...

fluid cipher
#

but what does suck is when i start transferring them i have a bunch of problems: ill have some past attempts and i cant just skip all the ones i previously sent

#

because they didnt transfer right have that 0 bytes of information

#

so ill have to go through individually with each file to double check, but even then when i delete the file from my phone it wont actually delete

#

which is lowkey an apple super L

neat crag
#

i can only imagine the failed attempts are due to phone going into lock/sleep

fluid cipher
#

well from past times i tried transferring files, deleting the stuff off my phone

#

and then they just wont delete (but the 0 bytes stuff is the phone going to sleep yeah)

neat crag
#

as for deleting a pic from iOS environment, i believe you have to also empty the 'recently deleted' items

#

it acts as a recycle bin

fluid cipher
#

like as a file, on the computer im transferring to

#

but i cant find it on my phone cus itll either have some long string of characters as a name (if its not native) or like "heic" and ill have to manually search for it on my phone which would take a long time

#

and sometimes there are files on my computer that dont appear on my phone which is crazy, but i think those are from the recycle bin

neat crag
#

im not sure on this stuff. i would advise to not delete stuff using file manager in linux off the iphone. It connects as MTP, which is a read-only protocol

#

u can of course delete files you dont want on your linux home drive

fluid cipher
#

the only smart things ive been doing is dealing with the i/o errors
