there was a power-outage whilst my pc was up and running, and the next time i boot it up the HDD is acting funny. the only folder (named "OneDrive") on my computer that has anything valuable to me, is instead just a "link" that contains 34 bytes. its the correct directory, and im certain that the folder hasnt been replaced by the 34 byte file because my disk still contains the same amount of free space as it did before the file went missing. i dont understand what happened to the folder, and i also dont understand why just this one folder was affacted (all other folders were untouched). i need to know if there is any possibility of me getting my folder and data back, thank you.

the full error message when i try to open the file is the 1st attatched image (the 2nd image is what the folder looks like now)

the folder is named OneDrive because when i used windows, all my folders were kept in there for some reason. i dont think ive ever actually used OneDrive though. its always been stored on my computer

yeah i got this when checking the partition

#

im a bit worried that repairing might cause me to lose data though

#

is it actually something i need to be worrying about or no?

#

wait now the checked partitions are unmounted

Since OneDrive is Microsoft's cloud service, the files should still be synced on their servers at least in the state it was in when you switched to Linux. Log into your Microsoft account and see if you retrieve them from there.

ive fixed it

#

literally the solution for me was to switch windows and now i can access my files

#

im running on a dual-boot now so if i need linux mint i can use it safely

#

my guess as to why this happened is similar to what Curunir pointed out. since OneDrive is a Windows server-based system, the folder attempted to access it despite the operating system not being windows

#

ive pulled that out my arse though i havent researched it or anything
