it infact is not linuxmint broken but most likely your HD.
if you want to move any valuable data from it to some other safe space, now is the last chance.
we can see the SMART data of your drive to confirm, if you have a linux* USB stick (make one from a 2nd pc), simply boot it, open the disks app, select your drive and select "smart data*, then show here
or if connected to the internet, simply sudo smartctl -a /dev/sda | nc termbin.com 9999
