#How to boot into copied partition?

So my SSD looks like this: I want to expand my 68GB linux mint partition to use the 407GB available space after deleting my windows partition. I figure the safest way to do that would be to boot into a Mint live USB, which I already have, and use gparted to copy the partition over to the left, boot into it to check it works, then delete the old one and then extend it to the right. But I have a question. How can I boot into the copied partition? Will the bootloader automatically find the copied partition if I delete the original one, or do I need to point it towards the copied partition, and if so, how can I do that? Thanks

no that's not the right way. making a new or copy will assign a new UUID which will be rather a mess and wont boot.

  • all you have to do (from in the live system) is unmount p7 on rightclick, notice it has the key icon which means mounted. then right click again and choose move. then drag the box as far to the left as it will drag.
#

then give it some time after clicking the checkmark to apply all operations, since 60.2 GB of data must move sectors.

#
  • after it is done, you right click p7 again and choose resize, and grab just the rightmost EDGE of the box and stretch it fully to the right.

FYi, if you deleted Windows fully, you can delete that partition 2 and 8 (p2, p8) BEFORE doing the move function
