Botched linux usb to external ssd install. Cant boot anything from usb anymore

I attempted to to make a external ssd on my laptop into a linux one, following this video https://youtu.be/dausb59wbq0?si=W6uEayCa-xht1B2r.
Linux mint itself was very slow to install right from the getgo, as well attempting to do it to my ssd. I noticed the ssd was connected to the usb 2.0 port which may have made things slow. It accidentally got disconnected and i got a error i couldnt reset linux miny because i was stuck on a wheel and i reset it.
After redownloading mint on balenanetcher resetting it on rufus they both gave me this error.
I became curious if it was my laptop itself so i tried my tails os usb and i got the same error now.
Now no usb can boot on my laptop at all what do i do?

Only thing i had check was secure boot off prior to thread

But was setting it in rufus to non bootable to the other linux mint stick problematic too?

Rufus has a option to turn a usb into non bootable i clicked it before resetting. With a new iso

It was the second option to boot a iso from in ventoy

Only that mode worked

Tailsos is a privacy linux meant to be directly bootable from a usb

While ventoy will be good for me for installing it on my external portable ssd i still will like to understand solution 2

That video is useless, the creator does not appear to understand all that clearly what they are doing. Looks like they are telling you to swap the HDD for the external one, then swapping it back. This is not necessary and complicates the process. Also, manual changes to ESP files should not be necessary. You should start over, and forget everything that guy said.

Where do you have TAILS? Alongside the Mint ISO on a Ventoy medium?

Naw I originally had tails on a different usb seperate from the minto one

TAILS is a live system that does not install anyway. You plug it in when you need it.
To install to the external drive, you can leave the Windows drive inside the laptop and ignore it. Attach the external drive and the Mint install medium, then boot from the Mint install medium. Once you get to drive selection for the install, select the external drive as a target.

Yea im aware of the tails business being live though after using balena for it, it seems to vanish from being detected until i reset it via rufus making it unable to be detected frkm boot screen

If TAILS has its own medium, all you need to do is start it from that medium. As long as the medium is not changed, it should not be affected by Mint.
However, if you expect one boot menu to offer you all options, including TAILS when it is attached, this is a bit tricky. You want to use the mainboard boot menu for that usually.

idk what's goin on with that, but you may want to remake your Tails OS USB stick using a flasher/multiloader app called Ventoy, and use its GPT option in the menu when setting it up to work on the latest UEFI-BIOS

if u ventoy the drive (if it's at least 8 GB) then u can put both Tails and Mint (live iso) on it. and choose either at boot time. Mint ISO comes with a Boot Repair program.

you would be wise to run up the iso, run the boot repair tool, and have it do a BOOT INFORMATION SUMMARY, then save that file as a .txt file do not upload to pastebin, it doesn't work and log to discord using firefox in live environment, and sent that text file summary here.

It seems that i messed up the partition during installation the /home partition is low on memory

Do i not make seperate partitions? Do i just make a singular one that uses all the ssd space

Which is what I told you ages ago.

It will automatically set aside an ESP partition, which is small, formatted FAT32 and just holds the boot files to start the system. You can just have one large / after this. It is optional to create a separate /home. Beginners should be fine with the default, which is just the one partition. Swap can be a partition as well, but Mint defaults to a swap file now.
