I am tired 😩, I have been figuring it out since last 3 days,

  1. Made a usb bootable flash drive successfully.
2)booted through usb and live session worked fine.
3)Started installation process and everything worked fine
⚠️ Problem: There is no os system on hard disk . What to do?
I also prioritised hard disk while booting in bios .

I DONT KNOW MAN I AM NEW TO LINUX AND PROGRAMMING AND I AM NOT EVEN ABLE TO INSTALL AN OS😔😔

Did the installation finish successfully, or did it throw an error at the end?

compact egret
#

It was successful and asked to restart

zenith spire
#

Then please enter your BIOS/UEFI. You know how to do that?

compact egret
#

Yes

zenith spire
#

You want to check if your boot options are set to UEFI or CSM.

compact egret
#

2 second please

#

Boot mode is on legacy

zenith spire
#

Select UEFI without CSM, then save and reboot, see if that does something.

compact egret
#

Okay

zenith spire
#

I meant try to boot, not enter UEFI again.

compact egret
#

Yeah I did it and laptop turned off

Yes I can

I recognise that UI layout, it is really defective. #1310723233762377828 message this is a silmar thread, though there was no clear solution.

compact egret
#

So what can I do now?

#

Wait the screen loaded

You should open the Disks tool from the menu and show us how your drive looks now, just to be safe.

Thanks G 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. I have old ass laptop and trying to figure out my way into programming from scratch.

69.0 C, fan speed:0

zenith spire

I guess your fan is dead, or the fan controller is not supported. HP makes shit laptops that often do not work great with Linux.

compact egret
#

It's a 2012 elitebook 8470p 😔that's what I can do for now

#

Can you help me with what you said about unmounting thing?

Tell me where the issue lie? I mean what if we do not unmount it

zenith spire
# compact egret But now usb drive is not in so?

So the icon does not show. If you unplug without unmounting, any file operations that were going on will be interrupted, and you can end up with broken files, or a broken drive. Since you were not doing anything with it before unplugging, it should be fine this time.

compact egret
#

Okay so should I try to restart laptop without usb drive this time?

#

Wait I plugged it in and these files showed up

You are done with the drive for now, it was only for installing. If you plug it in, Mint will automatically mount its partitions. You could practice unmounting it properly, but it has no further use right now. What you should do is go through the Welcome window, it guides you to set some things up. Make sure you set up Timeshift, so you get savegames of your system, and can reload if you fuck something up.

compact egret
#

@zenith spire bro which option should I choose?

zenith spire
#

The one you have, rsync. The other is only unlocked when you figure out how to run BTRFS, which you are not using right now.

compact egret
#

Okay

#

Timeshift is active it shows

zenith spire
#

Great, it should make a snapshot soon on its own. You can tell it to make one right now if you want to.

compact egret
#

Okay so I am creating one

#

Curunir after creating that snapshot or timeshift can I just unplug usb and restart laptop?

#

Nothing gonna crash right? Because previously my installer crashed 5 times

#

@zenith spire

zenith spire
#

Sure, you could have unplugged the USB long ago, it is not needed for any of this.

compact egret
#

Does it take this long to create snapshot?

#

@zenith spire

zenith spire
#

It looks like you already have a snapshot. What you want to do is go through the rest of the Welcome window, set up stuff.

compact egret
#

Learning things every minute, any specific suggestions for things to setup?

#

@zenith spire

zenith spire
#

Definitely pick local update mirrors that are near you. Have a look at Driver Manager and see if it has options for you. Other than that, explore, look at Software Manager to see what you can install.

compact egret
#

"No driver needed" it shows. Brother I just want to boot this linux mint laptop with hard disk , can I just restart now?

#

@zenith spire

zenith spire
#

Sure, you can restart any time.

compact egret
#

Thanks 🙏🏻 this community and you are great.

#

@zenith spire

zenith spire
#

Sure. You do not need to ping me constantly, I do look into threads when they get updated.
