Using a steam deck as a media center and I installed Ubuntu on it. Issue is I don't need the screen on 99% of the time cause it's plugged into my TV. When I do this the normal way in display settings it works fine until my TV is off cause then the HDMI turns off and Ubuntu turns the main screen back on

yep that's the natural way

#

when there's no voltage at the TV's HDMI port, then the pc will interpret that as display dead or connection cut, and will fall back to the other workable display

Is there a way I can turn that off until next reboot?

#

so u dont want any displays to show?

I don't want my deck's display to be on when I power off my TV

then perhaps ctrl-alt-L

So I figure that turning that using a command to turn that feature off till next reboot, then running that command on boot up will be the best solution, cause if anything goes wrong I can just reboot

#

What's that do

locks the screen

#

u can adjust the lock function to just be blank screen

#

in screensaver

#

and set the power off time to a couple minutes for the screen

Yeah but I don't wanna run that every time I turn my TV off, I just wanna turn my TV off

well there's no computer thing I know of that will sleep the computer while turning off just a monitor

#

assuming the Steam deck is totally idle when you turn the tv off, then u could put the Power Management : suspend function to 1 minute in the desktop's settings

#

then it will just sleep a minute later after u shut the tv off and walk away

#

(which will certainly turn off the internal screen)

If a browser has a video open I'm not sure it will turn the screen off

#

Its been on for like several days without me noticing

crystal halo
#

true. however as long as the browser isn't set to autoplay or loop vids in sequence, the system will go into idle mode as soon as the video stops.

#

afterwhich one minute the system will sleep

#

mind you, 1 minute is pretty short. it could cause the system to sleep while you're pondering what video to watch

#

so five minutes might be better.

#

u could also try n see if the TV's HDMI consumer electronics control is on, and if that may work to shut down the "computer"
