Specs: LMDE 6 on a MacBook Pro Model A1502
Problem: When i tried to install wine using https://wine.htmlvalidator.com/install-wine-on-linux-mint-debian-6.html, i had gotten to the apt-get stage, when it claimed "Unmet dependencies" as had with any other apt-get install command. I suspected the unmet dependencies were broken, so after using synaptic package manager, i found them, but there wasn't enough space in the boot folder to apply the changes, so i would have to uninstall timeshift, which is what i am currently stuck on right now. After i would remove the snapshots, i go to software manager to try and remove timeshift, but for some reason software manager didn't have perms to go into boot. Is there any way to grant the perms?

you don't have to remove Timeshift as an application. You can move the snapshot(s) to another adequately-sized, EXT4-formatted drive or partition of other drive. (eg. USB drive)
type df -h command to see current disk usage
Bleachbit (the non-Flathub version) is recommended to clean out user junk; and the root mode of it can be used to clean out apt junk and other junk system caches/ temporary files
- you can also turn off automatic Timeshift snapshot scheduling in the application's own settings, or reduce their frequency, or direct them to another ext4 or btrfs drive
- a quick n dirty way to clean out excess APT junk is via the terminal command:
sudo apt clean && sudo apt autoclean && sudo apt autoremove
to free up a bit of space.
- if still issues with the boot partition/folder, it may be due to too many old linux kernels having accumulated through updates. take written note of the current (presumably working good) kernel with
uname -r
- in synaptic, click status button on lower left, then the "Installed" item near top left. Then scroll the list for all things saying "linux-image" in the main area of installed things. Mark all the ones you don't need, (not the current one you noted above) for removal.
On the terms of bleachbit, the red wall appeared
also turns out any apt command the computer rejects
Last part: the current kernel is 6.1.0-21-amd64
need root mode for that
do the fix broken install line it suggests
also run this after and show:
lsblk -o NAME,TYPE,MODEL,LABEL,SIZE,FSSIZE,FSTYPE,FSUSED,MOUNTPOINT
ah i see your boot partition is excessively full
follow these two things
1: still 6.1.0-21-amd64
2: is this old, and are the old headers/image useless?
@vocal epoch send screenshots of apt update
Just keep the circled ones, and mark the rest for removal, and then click apply, and read the final 'to be changed' warning, and then OK it.
👍
the broken package is auto-marked
eh good luck
gues i'll have to remove it because it is forced marked = (
what do i do now?
also on terms of apt update:
if it's solved then leave it alone, and tag this solved
i'll check
It works
idk still why ur boot partition is so full.
eg: ^
go into /boot from a file manager to have a look
might need to use sudo nemo for privilege
dont delete anything just look
there's your problem. Right click on the timeshift folder. Choose "properties" and see its size consumed.
I'd recommend you move folder that to a secure USB drive that is adequately sized to backup your core system at least twice over (perhaps around 32 or 64 GB) and it must be EXT4 formatted to appease Timeshift. (also adjust Timeshift app's destination save setting!)
just realised that wine couldn't install the .exe i wanted (oculussetup)
thanks for helping anyway
still move that timeshift before bad stuff happens again
nah its ok, im getting a new laptop in a few months i think
