I have a thinkpad x390 yoga and I can't seem to control or read the fan speed, I have a gui installed for thinkfan and when I click "full_speed" I get an error : (please check that /etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad_acpi.conf contains "options thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1").

I have checked that file and it has that line, so I'm not sure what to do.

make sure the line in the conf file isn't commented out.

it's possible your fan or motherboard doesnt use a sensor. You can confirm by looking in the BIOS screens.

It's not commented out.

What should I look for in the bios.

if it's a fancy uefi type one, it ought to show a fan graphic with spinning fan blades, and a temperature value

#

else check the basic or main category, it may say textwise

#

if no mention at all, it doesnt have a sensor.
