Happy to provide more info if someone can help, it's just a bit of a pain more than anything. I wish I could lock the screens how I want them and not let it switch each time.
One question is, Is it reasonable to solve the problem? So suppose a given monitor is 50w, electricity is $0.17 per kwh and you use the machine in cyclops mode 4 hours per day for 365 days. How much money are you saving per monitor? About $12 per year per monitor.
Supposing it is. How are you turning them off Are you using the on screen control to power them off or are you cutting the juice to them? Are they continually connected to a machine that is itself continually on or does the machine itself get suspended which might actually save more juice if you aren't doing so.
Normally when monitors are turned off at the monitor are continually connected to machines that are continually on your monitor configuration isn't expected to change however if you physically unplug, or turn off a power strip to turn them completely off your PC is expected to respond to this.
To turn off the power I press the power button underneath the monitor so putting it into sleep mode I believe. It seemed to work fine in the past few hours, I'll keep monitoring it though.
In that case ensure that you have a tight connection it being slightly loose could be telling the computer it was disconnected.
