#Torchlight 2 not working

Gtk-WARNING: Locale not supported by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale
does gog distribute their installers as shell scripts?
Like this
i see you have some ROM folder, did it extract the same to that directory?
Once I click on the link, it automatically downloads it to the Downloads folder. I prefer to keep my game dumps in there too
so does the game work or no
I am getting this error so I abort the installer
you abort it yourself or does it abort itself
Myself as I do not want to install a broken game
there is no error tho
But what locale is not supported ?
I don't know nor care, it just complains about some useless thing. if you worry about every log then you may as well toss your pc away. my personal recommendation is to just use heroic launcher (available in software store) and run your games easily from there
Isn't Heroic for Epic games ?
no
For example, I must do this fix to have Torchlight 2 ModLoader working if I want to play with mods
I'll wait for someone to help me with this. I don't want to install an entire launcher just for 1 game
then run the shell script you got from gog
Am I running it wrong ? I don't understand
open downloads directory and double click the file
press "Next" button
The game works after installation. What locale is missing ?
Oh, so it did work. you can mark this as solved then
I already explained
You told me to throw my PC away or use Heroic
which one do you prefer then
The one that addresses the title of this support ticket
https://steamcommunity.com/app/200710/discussions/0/3075370188242028247/ a locale is missing
When I run it from terminal, it says [13:59:38] Generic WARNING Failed to set locate to UTF-8 locale.. trying to force it. [13:59:38] Generic ERROR UTF-8 Charset not available. Check your LANG, LC_CTYPE, or LC_ALL. I tried running it with different locales - both UTF-8 and non-UTF. But nothing helps.
ok, I dont know why it's saying a warning. but if the game works, then it means it works. if it didn't work, then it would say GTK-ERROR. I suggest you to run any terminal app and count how many warnings you get. xed /etc/default/grub is a good starting point
do you experience this issue?
Torchlight 2 ModLoader does not start
I will wait for someone else to help me, thank you
so you say that it doesn't start, not that the game launches fine.
The game is split into 2. There is the base game and the base game + mods
output of locale -a if you say locale is the issue?
seems to have USA pack. you can also check cat /etc/default/locale if its set up correctly
also you sent this, is it the issue you are experiencing?
Once I click it, absolutely nothing happens until I remove those files
can you elaborate?
Nothing starts or shows anything until I remove those files
and what happens after you remove them?
I haven't tried the mods thoroughly so it starts is all I can say
Seems like it was fixed the Steam and Humble Bundle version
FlatOut 1 doesn't work at all
Witcher 2 doesn't work
Shadow Warrior Classic Redux doesn't work either
Gaming on Linux is a nightmare if Steam isn't used
If anyone tells you to delete system libraries to make an app work feel free to punch them in the face so they give less bad advice in the future
Are we talking about running native linux games or windows games?
If the latter using wine by itself has always been kinda crap which is why there are multiple front ends to wine the simplest being steam with proton
Did you actually delete system libraries to make a game work?
I would suggest using steam or one of the other wine frontends like lutris for all windows games
additionally I've seen some Linux native titles that were kinda piss poor work wherein you were actually better off running the Windows version via wine preferably with something like proton/crossover/lutris rather than manually managing wine
I’m using a native Linux version of Torchlight 2 that doesn’t go through Wine from what I see but I can’t launch the ModLoader until those files are gone. The others like FlatOut 1, GOG uses a Windows version and labels it as Linux since they probably bundle some Wine files. I have Wine Staging with Mono and Gecko installed but none of those Windows marked as Linux GOG games run
Wine 9.21 with the latest Mono and Gecko
I can’t even get an old game like Manhunt 2 running and it’s an official digital Amazon copy. It installs the game just fine but it doesn’t start it
I got Manhunt 2 working perfectly fine through Bottles
I'll just Bottles and avoid Linux versions of games as they are a total pain to get working
Fixed Torchlight 2 for me as well
ModLauncher works as intended
Going to test GUTS which is the game editor/modding tool before I mark this as Solved
This tool doesn't exist on the Linux version
Unpacking the tool atm which will take a long time
Torchlight 2 not working
Yup, it all works
Game, Game + Mods and the Editor all work
For those coming upon this later, use Bottles from the Software Manager. The Flatpak version.
And use the Windows version of the game. Not the Linux version.
